    ICESCO Organizes Lectures and Meetings to Support Arabic Language Education in Thailand and Cambodia

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) held two activities geared towards promoting the role of the Arabic language in a number of Asian countries from 24-26 July 2026. The ICESCO Center for Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers, in cooperation with Krirk University in Bangkok, Thailand, organized an academic lecture titled, “The Arabic Language in the Digital Age: Transforming Learning and Advancing Education Toward the Future.”

    The lecture, attended by fifty university professors, researchers, and master’s and PhD students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Cambodia, was delivered by Dr. Youssef Ismaili, Head of the Language Training Division at the Center. During the lecture, Dr. Ismaili highlighted the rapid transformations in the field of language education in the wake of the digital revolution, reviewing the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence in advancing Arabic language education for non-Arabic speakers through the design of more interactive learning environments, producing innovative digital content, and developing assessment methods. He stated that such measures can contribute to improving the quality of learning and enhancing language acquisition skills in line with the latest educational trends.

    The Center also held a roundtable discussion in Kampot on “Improving the Quality of Arabic Language Education in Cambodia: Toward a Higher-Quality and More Sustainable Educational System,” in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation for Education and Development in Cambodia.

    Dr. Ismaili moderated a number of academic sessions as part of the roundtable, which resulted in a set of recommendations. These include highlighting the need to develop a vision for improving the Arabic language education system in Cambodia, identifying priorities for teacher training, and strengthening cooperation between ICESCO and Cambodian universities and educational institutions. They also include building a network for communication and expertise exchange, launching joint initiatives to develop curricula and educational resources, and capitalizing on modern technologies to support the educational process.

    ICESCO Director-General Participates in 56th Morocco Book Award Ceremony

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), participated in the award ceremony of the 56th edition of the Morocco Book Award, held on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at the National Library in Rabat, Morocco.

    During the ceremony, Dr. AlMalik, alongside Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication of the Kingdom of Morocco, presented awards to several winners. The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of prominent thinkers, leading writers, and cultural figures.

    On this occasion, Dr. AlMalik commended Morocco’s national efforts to support and promote its cultural landscape, noting that these efforts clearly reflect the richness and diversity of the country’s intellectual and artistic scene. He also reaffirmed ICESCO’s readiness to contribute to all initiatives aimed at strengthening Morocco’s national cultural landscape.

    The Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication previously announced the winners of the award, which was established in 1968 and comprises six categories: Narrative Literature and Storytelling; Poetry; Literary, Linguistic and Artistic Studies; Humanities; Social Sciences; and Translation.

    The award, whose latest edition featured 162 accepted works, aims to support writers and creators and to advance cultural development by recognizing outstanding works in the fields of literature, the humanities, and the social sciences.

    ICESCO workshop to enhance the skills of plastic artists concludes in Burkina Faso

    The workshop, organized by the Culture and Communication Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Burkina Faso, the Burkinabe National Commission for UNESCO and ICESCO, concluded on Saturday (10 August 2024) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, to enhance the skills and build the capacities of plastic artists in painting, sculpture, engraving, videotaping and photography.

    The workshop, which lasted for four days and was supervised by two specialized trainers, aimed to provide the participating artists with theoretical and practical information on new artistic tools and the skills needed to keep up with relevant international standards, and enhance their knowledge of local and imported raw materials and new models of contemporary plastic creativity.

    In his speech, Mr. Adjima Thiombiano, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, President of the National Commission of Burkina Faso, delivered on his behalf by Dr. Vanson Sidogo, Secretary General of the Burkinabe National Commission, commended ICESCO’s efforts in continuously supporting Burkina Faso in the fields of education, science and culture, stressing that most plastic artists in the country are self-taught, adding that this workshop will contribute to equipping participants with the necessary skills to keep up with global developments in the cultural and artistic fields.

    For his part, Mr. Slaka Sano, Regional Director of Culture, Arts and Tourism of Hauts-Bassins, pointed out that Bobo-Dioulasso is considered the cultural capital of Burkina Faso, and encouraged plastic artists to participate in such important workshops, thanking ICESCO for its efforts in upgrading the skills of artists.

    ICESCO Director-General Honored at Culture of Recognition and Gratitude Ceremony in Salé

    The Association of Hassouni Sharīfs in the Kingdom of Morocco honored Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), at the National Ceremony for the Culture of Recognition and Gratitude. The Ceremony, held in Salé, Morocco, on Sunday 4 August 2024, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s King Mohamed VI accession to the throne, paid tribute to several prominent Moroccan figures across various fields.

    During the Ceremony, Dr. AlMalik received his honorary shield from Mr. Abdelmajid Hassouni, head of the Hassouni Sharīfs Zawiya. Mr. Hassouni emphasized that the honor was in appreciation of the Director-General’s efforts in advancing education, science, and culture in the Organization’s Member States, including Morocco. He highlighted Dr. AlMalik’s role in achieving numerous notable accomplishments since taking office, equipping ICESCO with a rejuvenated vision that’s guiding the Organization towards new horizons.

    A number of delegations participating in the first international forum of military music, organized by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces on the occasion of Throne Day, visited the International Exhibition and Museum of the Prophet’s Seerah and Islamic Civilization, being housed at the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and cultural organization (ICESCO) in Rabat.
    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of ICESCO, received on Friday (26 July 2024), the delegations representing the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Senegal, explaining that the Organization is hosting the Exhibition within the framework of its efforts to showcase the correct image of our true religion, in strategic partnership with the Muslim World League and the Mohammadia League of Scholars.

    Afterwards, the visitors listened to explanations about the detailed simulation of the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through the use of the latest technologies that take the visitor into a real experience to discover the prophet biography.

    At the end of the tour, the visitors expressed their happiness to visit this great Exhibition, commending its ways of addressing all categories in a simplified manner through the use of the latest technologies.

    Regional Workshop on Islamic World AI Charter Kicks Off in Muscat

    The Omani capital, Muscat, is hosting the Islamic World AI Charter Regional Workshop (IWAIC) Asia and Middle East Regions, organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in partnership with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman, and in collaboration with the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. The workshop kicked off on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, under the patronage and in the presence of Dr. Khamis bin Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, bringing together high-level participation from officials, experts, and researchers from 23 countries.

    This Workshop is part of the activities of ICESCO Chair for AI Ethics at UTAS in Oman and the Organization’s preparation and draft of the Islamic World AI Charter.

    The Workshop opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by welcoming remarks by Dr. Saeed bin Hamad Al-Rubaie, President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences. Dr. Al-Rubaie highlighted that UTAS and ICESCO are focused on AI ethics and use, which is reflected in their joint plans and initiatives, mainly ICESCO Chair for AI Ethics, which was established this year at UTAS to address ethical issues arising from the advent of AI applications.

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General (DG), began his speech with poetic verses in tribute to Oman and its people. Dr. AlMalik stated that scholars of the Islamic world have historically been at the forefront of advancing humanity.

    Dr. Al-Malik stated that the global AI market is growing at an annual rate of 33% and is expected to drive global economic growth by 14% by 2030. He added that AI market is projected to expand by at least 120% year-on-year and that 77% of the devices we currently use incorporate AI.

    The DG stressed that the Organization accords special attention to AI evident in its comprehensive foresight strategy for the field, particularly strategic governance and ethical dimensions. This focus, he explained, has led the Member States to task ICESCO’s General Directorate with drafting the Islamic World AI Charter.

    Dr. AlMalik concluded his address by thanking the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Al-Jabri, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, and the Omani National Commission for their significant efforts in organizing the Workshop, which will help open new horizons for the use of artificial intelligence.

    Speaking next, Dr. Kais Hammami, Head of ICESCO’s Center for Foresight and Artificial Intelligence, reviewed the strategic and methodological framework for the IWAIC, emphasizing that the Charter is a milestone towards a prosperous and sustainable technological future for the Islamic world, aligning with its values and consolidating its position on the global stage.

    Mr. Mohamed Hedi Shili, Head of ICESCO Department of Legal Affairs and International Standards, presented an overview of the indicators used to measure countries’ readiness for artificial intelligence implementation, including “governance and ethics,” explaining that the differences in readiness among countries drive the Organization to work more on sharing experiences among its Member States to benefit from leading experiences.

    Dr. Said Bin Salim Jaboob, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences for Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Innovation, discussed the prospects of development in artificial intelligence, its competition with humans and the need to keep pace with regulating research in this field, especially with regard to artificial intelligence ethics.

    At the end of the opening session, the workshop participants, including researchers and experts, were honored, and commemorative shields were exchanged between the heads of the organizing bodies and the patron of the event, followed by a group photo.

    The agenda of the two-day workshop features several interactive sessions, discussions, and presentations. Additionally, it includes the creation of working groups to exchange views and perspectives on artificial intelligence in Asia and the Middle East, as well as to discuss the ethical aspects related to its applications in the Islamic world.

    ICESCO Participates in 24th Arab Radio and TV Festival and ASBU Exhibition Kick Off in Tunis

    With the participation of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Tunis witnessed the launch of the 24th Arab Radio and TV Festival, along with the opening of the ASBU Exhibition for Technology, Equipment, and Software Market. The event is jointly organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, in cooperation with Tunisian Television, the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat), and Tunisian Radio. The Festival runs from June 26 to 29, 2024, under the theme: “Free Palestine.”

    The opening ceremony of the Festival, held at the Carthage Amphitheatre on Wednesday, 26 June, 2024, was marked by the high-profile attendance of officials, media professionals, and artists from various countries. Representatives from regional and international media organizations, as well as media production companies, were also present. The Festival honored the guests of the 24th edition, and celebrated several Arab stars. The event concluded with a musical performance by Lebanese artist Ragheb Alama, with proceeds dedicated to supporting the resilient people of Palestine.

     A delegation of ministers and senior officials from the Ministries of Social Affairs, Solidarity and Family from a number of Member States of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) visited, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the International Exhibition and Museum of the Prophet's Seerah and Islamic Civilization, currently housed at the Organization's headquarters in Rabat.

    During his reception of the delegation, Dr. Abdelilah Benarafa, ICESCO Deputy Director-General, stated that the Exhibition and Museum, in its first stop outside Saudi Arabia, is the outcome of the strategic partnership among ICESCO, the Muslim World League and the Muhammadia League of Scholars. He added that since its opening to the public in November 2022, the Exhibition and Museum has attracted an unprecedented number of visitors from citizens and visitors of the Kingdom of Morocco.

    Dr. Benarafa took the delegation, visiting Rabat to participate in the First International Conference on Care Economy and Social Protection, on a tour of the Exhibition and Museum, explaining that it adopts the latest technological display methods, along with the traditional display forms in the section on the Moroccan connection to Prophet Muhammad.
    The members of the delegation commended this key initiative, praising ICESCO’s efforts to raise awareness of the life of the Prophet (pbuh).

    ICESCO and OTS sign MoU for cooperation in education, science and culture

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of education, culture, science, technology, media and communication, through the implementation of joint programs and projects, and the exchange of technical expertise, knowledge and best practices in these fields.

    The MoU was signed on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, by Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General (DG), and Amb. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, OTS Secretary-General. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Nazim Samadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Morocco, Mr. Mustafa İlker Kılıç, Ambassador of Türkiye, Ms. Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Dr. Abdelilah Benarfa, ICESCO Deputy DG and several heads of sectors and departments at the Organization.

    Dr. AlMalik expressed his delight at signing this MoU, stating that it would be the stepping stone for greater cooperation between ICESCO and the OTS in the fields of education, science and culture. He also commended the strong partnership relations between ICESCO and a number of the Member States of both organizations, especially Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

    For his part, Amb. Omuraliev stressed that the signing of the MoU will open great prospects for impactful cooperation between the Member States of the two organizations through the implementation of joint programs and projects falling within the two organizations’ areas of competence.

    The MoU provides for promoting joint cooperation between the two organizations, contributing to the development of expertise and knowledge exchange between universities and higher education institutions in the Member States, participating in the annual and ministerial meetings of both sides, and implementing a number of initiatives and projects in areas of common interest.

    Prior to the signing, the Director-General received the OTS Secretary General, and together they reaffirmed their keenness to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations, in accordance with the MoU provisions. They also agreed to focus efforts on building young capacities, supporting efforts to develop scientific research, and publicizing the cultures of the Islamic world and the contributions of its scientists throughout history in building human civilization.

    Founded in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization, the Organization of Turkic States is based in the Istanbul, Türkiye, and its members include Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The OTS also has a number of Observer States. in addition to the membership of a number of countries and organizations as observers.

    Working hours of Museum and Exhibition of the Prophet’s Seerah at ICESCO headquarters after Eid Al-Adha holiday

    The International Exhibition and Museum of the Prophet’s Seerah and Islamic Civilization, currently housed at the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Rabat, will reopen its doors to visitors on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, after the Eid al-Adha holiday (from Saturday, June 15 to Tuesday, June 18, 2024).

    Following this holiday, the Exhibition and Museum will continue to welcome visitors every day of the week except Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rabat time.

    Since its opening to the public on November 28, 2022, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, and following its official inauguration graced by the presence of HRH Prince Moulay El Hassan, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Exhibition and Museum has seen large numbers of visitors from all age groups, attracting Moroccan citizens, residents and visitors to the Kingdom, with the total number of visitors approaching six million to date.
