    ICESCO Participates in First International Exhibition of Non-Profit and Awqaf in Saudi Arabia

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the first International Exhibition for Non-Profit and Awqaf (endowment) (IENA) in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which is sponsored by the Saudi Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing, to build qualitative partnerships at the local and international levels in the non-profit sector and Awqaf, with the participation of more than 100 local and international entities.

    Dr. Ahmed Said Bah, Advisor to ICESCO Director-General for Partnerships and International Cooperation, Supervisor of the Secretariat of National Commissions and Conferences, and Mr. Mohamed Hedi Shili, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs and International Standards, represented ICESCO at the three-day Exhibition that was launched on 27 May 2023, under the theme: “Effective partnerships for the goals of sustainable development.”

    During the Exhibition, ICESCO representatives reviewed the Organization’s efforts and projects, mainly ICESCO Development Waqf Fund, which was approved by the Organization’s Executive Council at its 40th session in Abu Dhabi in 2020. They held a series of meetings with the Exhibition management and several charitable associations and endowment institutions to discuss cooperation avenues.

    They also visited the headquarters of the Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and met with the Commission’s officials to explore the arrangements for holding the next session of the ICESCO Executive Council in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to the executive steps of ICESCO programs and projects in cooperation with the Saudi authorities.

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Medaires, Director-General of the KSA-based UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education (UNESCO RCQE), held a meeting to discuss ways to promote cooperation between ICESCO and the Center to improve the quality of education, anticipate its future, consolidate the values of coexistence, and promote citizenship education and shared human values.

    During the meeting, held on Monday, May 29, 2023, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, Dr. Al-Malik highlighted the main axes of the Organization’s vision and strategic orientations, stressing that ICESCO designs and implements programs and projects based on the priorities and needs of its Member States to ensure the achievement the desired results.

    The DG added that ICESCO adopts capacity building for youth and women in the fields of leadership for peace and security, technology and innovation, artificial intelligence and space science applications, and works to hone their skills to keep pace with the needs of tomorrow’s professions.

    For his part, Dr. Al- Medaires shared the Center’s strategy, efforts in the field of quality education, and programs and projects, which focus on achieving SDG 4.

    The meeting discussed partnership proposals to implement programs and projects, particularly in the fields of anticipating the future of education, promoting scientific research in the field, building capacities for workers in the education sectors, addressing the challenges of educational loss, and cooperating in organizing international forums to discuss the latest developments in education.

    At the close of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue coordination for the signing of a cooperation agreement to provide for the implementation of programs and projects with positive impact.

    The meeting was attended by Dr. Fatima Al-Ruwais, Assistant DG of the UNESCO RCQE, and Ms. Sally Mabrouk, Director of the Office of ICESCO DG.

    ICESCO Director General Receives Palestinian Minister of Education

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received Dr. Marwan Awartani, the Palestinian Minister of Education, to explore ways to strengthen the existing partnership between ICESCO and the State of Palestine in the field of education, capacities building of education professionals and foresight.

    At the outset of the meeting, which took place on Monday, May 29, 2023, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, in the presence of Dr. Dawas Dawas, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Chairman of ICESCO Executive Council, and Ambassador Jamal Al-Shobaki, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Kingdom of Morocco, Dr. AlMalik reaffirmed the Organization’s eagerness and relentless endeavor to support the educational sector in Palestine through many programs and projects aimed at developing educational institutions and providing the necessary tools and means for the success of the educational process and ensuring its continuity, in coordination with the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.

    He explained that ICESCO, under its new vision and strategic orientations, adopts a new communication approach with the authorities in its Member States to identify their orientations and needs and design tailor-cut programs and projects for each country, noting that the Organization accords special importance to building the capabilities of youth and women in various fields.

    The Education Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) took part in the 107th session of the Committee on Educational Programs for Arab Students in Occupied Arab Territories, held by the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, to discuss the educational process in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israeli practices against it.

    During his participation in the meeting, Dr. Yousef Abu Daqqa, Director of Programs at ICESCO’s Education Sector, presented a report on the Organization’s efforts to support the educational sector in Palestine over the period 2021-2023.     The Education Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), launched on Monday, May 29, 2023, a Training Session in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in cooperation with the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, on improving the competencies of teachers in modern teaching strategies (Online education), for the benefit of teachers at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and relevant ministries and bodies in the Lebanese Republic.

    The four-day Session aims at developing national capabilities in the field and providing the participating teachers with advanced expertise and skills on new trends related to online education strategies, as well as exchanging experiences and expertise among the participants.

    Dr. Ahmed Al-Zanfali, Program Manager at Education Sector, representing ICESCO at the event, confirmed that the Session will work to achieve its objectives of improving teachers’ competencies in modern teaching strategies, especially the online education strategy to achieve the desired educational development.

    International Congress on Natural Products and Sustainable Development kicks off at ICESCO headquarters

    On Thursday (May 25, 2023), the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) witnessed the launch of the third International Congress: “Natural Resources and Sustainable Development: Health, Food and Cosmetic Applications,” held by the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, in partnership with the Faculty of Sciences of Mohammed V University, and Ibn Rushd Foundation for the Promotion of Scientific Research, Innovation and Sustainable Development, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, may Allah assist him.

    The opening session of the Congress began with the recitation of clear verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the address of Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of ICESCO, in which he emphasized that the tremendous changes that have taken place in human life require concerted efforts and unified visions to achieve the goals of sustainable development by valuing resources through accurate scientific research in the fields of nutrition and agriculture, which highlights the pivotal role of universities, research centers and laboratories.

    He added that ICESCO, seeking to raise awareness of the importance of linking the results of scientific and technological research to sustainable development, pays special attention to the environment, artificial intelligence, future models for education, and the development of space science to formulate innovative solutions and open promising prospects for Muslim countries.

    Ministers and Officials of Cultural Institutions from More than 26 Countries Visit ICESCO’s Museum and Exhibition of Prophet’s Seerah

    A delegation of 13 Arab and African Culture Ministers and several senior officials from cultural institutions of more than 13 other countries visited the International Museum and Exhibition of the Prophet’s Seerah and Islamic Civilization, currently hosted at the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Rabat.

    Dr. Abdelilah Benarafa, ICESCO Deputy Director-General, accompanied by Mr. Najib Rhiati, Cultural Advisor to ICESCO Director-General, and several Heads of the Organization Departments, received the delegation participating in a high-level ministerial meeting in the Kingdom of Morocco on the occasion of the close of Rabat celebration as Capital of African Culture for 2022-2023, where he noted that the Museum and Exhibition, which are the first edition outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, are the outcome of a strategic partnership between ICESCO, the Muslim World League and the Mohammadia League of Scholars.

    ICESCO Holds Workshop in Guinea-Bissau on Challenges of Teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic Speakers

    The Center for Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) is holding a training workshop on teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, under the theme, “Teaching Arabic: Challenges and Solutions.” The Workshop is organized in cooperation with Guinea-Bissau’s National Commission for ICESCO.

    More than thirty educational officials and teachers of the Arabic language from different regions of Guinea-Bissau took part in the four-day workshop, which kicked off on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. The Workshop will feature educational presentations and training segments, focusing on several themes, including, an overview of the challenges and difficulties facing teaching Arabic in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, a review of major educational strategies in teaching language skills, and educational solutions to the various teaching problems facing teachers in class.

    ICESCO launches program to produce 500,000 gum arabic tree seedlings in Mauritania

    In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, observed annually on May 22, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) launched a program to produce 500,000 seedlings of seeds collected from gum arabic trees in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in partnership with the following: the Mauritanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Pan African Agency for the Great Green Wall Initiative, the Healthy Tomorrow Organization for the Development and Protection of the Environment in Mauritania, and several women’s incubators. The program is part of ICESCO’s celebration of Nouakchott culture capital in the Islamic world for 2023.

    The launch of the first phase of the program, held on Monday (May 22, 2023), saw the mobilization and training of female incubator workers to produce seedlings of gum arabic trees, raising their awareness of the importance of protecting the environment, ensuring the afforestation of areas affected by desertification, promoting good governance in natural resources use, reclaiming degraded lands, and harnessing best agricultural practices in order to contribute to providing sustainable income and achieving development in several areas in the Trarza Region in Mauritania.

    The seedlings are to be grown in a nursery at this first phase, before being transferred to their permanent planting lots on a 12-hectare field, in August 2023.

    During the launch, Dr. Ismaila Diallo, Expert at ICESCO’s Science and Technology Sector, highlighted the objectives of the programme, notably contributing to combating desertification and enhancing the resilience of ecosystems to preserve biodiversity, which falls within the strategic priorities of the Organization to serve its Member States in general and Mauritania in particular, as it is considered one of the countries most affected by this phenomenon.
