    ICESCO Delegation holds Series of Meetings with UN Officials in Geneva

    A delegation from the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), participated in the 15th session of the coordination meeting between the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held at the UN Office in Geneva from 18 to 20 July 2022, where it held a series of meetings with high-level officials of the UN Organizations to explore ways of strengthening cooperation between ICESCO and these Organizations.

    During the meetings, ICESCO’s delegation consisted of Ms. Amira El Fadil, Head of Partnerships and International Cooperation Sector, Ms. Rime Jirari, Head of the Department of Organizations and Bodies in the Sector, and Mr. Salem El Habsi, Program Manager at the General Secretariat of National Commissions and Conferences, presented the Organization’s vision and new action strategy aimed at promoting comprehensive and sustainable development in the Islamic world and beyond.     The Delegation also held other meetings with Mr. Mohamed Khaled El-Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General in the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, Ms. Nicole El Khoury, Legal Officer at UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate, Ms. Alice Mungwa, Chief Regional Support Section, Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch, UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, Ms. Sahar Al-Jobury, Chief of the Representative Office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Cairo, and Ms. Fadia Nahhas, Community Outreach Officer, United Nations Register of Damage Caused by the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

    These meetings included a rich exchange of ideas and proposals for joint action and constituted a basis for strengthening cooperation between ICESCO and these UN Organizations, in various fields, including developing youth skills to keep pace with developments in the labor market and future jobs, vocational training and fighting child labor.

    ICESCO Director-General Explores Cooperation in Building Youth Capacities with Ministers and Representatives of 10 African Countries

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at ICESCO Headquarters, ministers of youth and sports, representatives of several African countries and leaders of the African Youth Union (AYU), who are participating in the first edition of the Annual Consultative Dialogue for African Youth Leaders held in Rabat, where they explored ways to strengthen cooperation between ICESCO and their countries in qualifying youth and building their capacities.

    After welcoming ICESCO’s guests, Dr. AlMalik stated that as part of its vision and strategic orientation, the Organization accords special attention to youth through implementing several ambitious programs and projects aimed at building youth capacities, supporting them in the field of entrepreneurship and leadership training in peace and security, in coordination and cooperation with the competent authorities in the Member States.

    ICESCO’s DG pointed out the Organization’s openness to implement practical programs and projects for the benefit of its Member States and Muslim communities around the world and contribute to building prosperous societies, saying that the Organization’s charter allows non-Member States to join ICESCO as Observer States and that the Organization’s General Directorate welcomes any suggestions or ideas enriching its action.

    He noted that ICESCO prioritizes the strengthening of the values ​​of coexistence, peace and civilizational dialogue, encourages its Member States to invest in space sciences and artificial intelligence to contribute to the development of all fields and valorizes heritage in the countries of the Islamic world, by inscribing heritage sites and elements on ICESCO’s Lists of Tangible and Intangible Heritage.

    ICESCO Takes Part in International Conference in Paris on Promotion of African Museums

    Dr. Abba Ousman delivered a presentation on the first volume of the Directory of Museums in the Islamic World entitled “Museums in Africa”, which was published by ICESCO in May 2022, noting that the document provides an overview of museums in the sub-Saharan African Member States, and that it is the first publication of the Islamic World Heritage Center in the Organization’s Culture and Communication Sector.

    The meetings touched upon ways to enhance cooperation between ICESCO and the institutions the guests represent within the framework of ICESCO’s vision and strategic orientations. During these meetings, Dr. AlMalik reviewed the main thrusts and objectives of the vision which are aimed to support the efforts of ICESCO’s Member States to achieve sustainable development, especially in the fields of education, science and culture.

    ICESCO DG first met Mr. Frederic Ouattara, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Republic of Burkina Faso, who praised ICESCO’s efforts to encourage its Member States to localize modern technology and benefit from the potential it offers.

    The three-day Training Workshop at ICESCO Headquarters aims at providing a practical application on how to design a satellite model, explaining basic concepts in physics and engineering to participating university students, galvanize young graduates’ innovative ideas in the space industry, as well as encourage university researchers and scientists to exchange experiences in the field of space data collection.
