    ICESCO Reviews its Efforts and Programs in Field of Water and Sanitation Services

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in a special session under the theme “Enhance Global Cooperation in the Field of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic”, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, as part of the 9th World Water Forum, which is held by the World Water Council and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, in cooperation with ICESCO and several bodies and organizations, in, Dakar, Republic of Senegal, on March 21-26, 2022, with the participation of many institutions, research centers, experts and specialists in water resources management and environmental protection.

    Dr. Foued El-Ayni, Expert at ICESCO Science and Technology Sector, reviewed ICESCO’s efforts in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the production of sanitizers and detergents in a number of Member States, the implementation of ICESCO’s Program for Water and Sanitation Services Improvement in 1000 rural schools in Muslim countries, as well as the organization of several environmental awareness-raising workshops on , and the promotion of the ways and mechanisms for cooperation with research centers and universities in the Islamic world to develop scientific research and innovation in the fields of water resource management and health.

    The session also discussed the key global initiatives, programs and projects, highlighting the need to unify efforts between international and regional organizations, institutions and universities, in order to preserve water resources and protect the environment through knowledge and expertise sharing.

    ICESCO and Gambia Explore Avenues of Cooperation

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Dr. Isatou Touray, Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia, explored avenues of cooperation between the Organization and the Republic in ICESCO’s areas of competence.

    During the meeting, which took place in the capital of Senegal, Dakar, Dr. AlMalik emphasized that, in light of its new vision and action strategy, ICESCO ensures constant and extensive communication with its Member States to identify their needs and priorities in relation to the Organization’s fields of competence, and devise programmes and activities accordingly in cooperation with the competent authorities in each country.

    ICESCO DG reviewed the major programmes that the Organization is currently implementing, noting the special importance that ICESCO attaches to building youth and women capacities, anchoring the values ​​of coexistence, peace and civilizational dialogue, promoting investment in space sciences and harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence for educational, scientific and cultural development.
    For her part, Dr. Touray commended ICESCO’s roles and efforts in assisting its Member States, stressing The Gambia’s keenness to build fruitful cooperation with the Organization in its areas of competence.

    ICESCO Participates in 48th Session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Pakistan

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) takes part in the 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which kicked off today (March 22, 2022) in Islamabad, Pakistan, under the theme “Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice and Development”.

    Dr. Ahmed Said Bah, Adviser to the Director-General for Partnerships and International Cooperation, Supervisor of the General Secretariat of National Commissions and Conferences, represents ICESCO in this two-day meeting.

    ICESCO Director-General Presents to Senegalese President “Peace 360” Book

    Dr. Salim AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), presented to His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, a copy of the book “Peace 360: Exploring the Dimensions of Peace,” which was recently issued by ICESCO.     The Education Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) held a meeting with a team from the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports in Morocco, and together they reviewed updates regarding the project on the establishment of a development model for basic education in Morocco. This project is part of the advisory services and institutional support contract between the Organization and the Ministry, in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), called for rendering more attention to green and circular economy, green leadership positions for women, sustainable agriculture, and nature-based solutions to adapt to climate change in women-led projects. He reaffirmed ICESCO’s commitment to work and cooperate with its Member States to meet the expectations of the Islamic world’s women and girls for a more equal future where they can assume leadership positions in different fields.

    Dr. AlMalik made this statement at an event held by the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family in the Kingdom of Morocco, on the sidelines of the 66th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.     ICESCO’s Arabic Language Training Workshop for Non-Arabic Speakers Kicks Off in UK

    The training workshop on educational linguistics and its role in developing the language skills of non-Arabic speaking students learning the Arabic language kicked off on Friday, March 18, 2022, via videoconference. The workshop is organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in cooperation with the Arabic Language Department at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

    The training workshop is held in light of ICESCO’s new vision endeavoring to develop and upgrade strategies for teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers in line with modern educational approaches in and beyond the Organization’s Member States.

    The workshop, which will also take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, is aimed at developing the competencies and teaching abilities of over thirty Arabic teachers from various schools and institutions in the UK’s Yorkshire region. By leveraging the latest developments in educational linguistics and techniques for developing the four skills of language learning (listening – speaking – reading – writing) according to proficiency levels, the workshop seeks to enable participants to prepare supplementary instructional materials for teaching Arabic.

    The two-day workshop will feature interventions and presentations tackling three major topics: the challenges and difficulties in teaching Arabic in the UK, the major educational strategies for teaching language skills, and models for preparing supplementary courses to scale up skill development strategies.

    ICESCO and Naif Scientific Forum Recommend Development of Methodology and Media Protocol for Managing Crisis and Catastrophies

    The Scientific Forum on ” Security Media during Crises and Catastrophies,” held by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of a group of experts and researchers, issued at the conclusion of its activities a set of important practical recommendations to strengthen partnership and cooperation between Countries of the Islamic world in addressing crises and catastrophies, promoting the use of modern technology in the service of media and developing a methodology and a common media protocol for managing crises and disasters.

    The participants at the Forum, which was held at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat and via videoconference from March 16, to March 18, 2022, stressed the importance of benefiting from successful experiences in directing the media to reduce and limit rumors and false news during crises and supporting and qualifying media officials through training to produce the appropriate content.

    The Forum’s recommendations touched upon the importance of training security personnel on information and communication technologies, given their active and proactive role in reducing the risks of crises and disasters, and taking advantage of modern technologies such as space technologies, artificial intelligence applications, big data and algorithms in all stages of managing crisis and catastrophies.
