A delegation of the members of the Executive Committee of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) visited the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in Rabat, on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, to discuss ways to build cooperation between ICESCO and the Union in the field of training and capacity building for the benefit of youth in Africa.
The delegation included four ICESCO Ambassadors for Peace: Mr. Moumouni Dialla, current President of the Union, Mr. Aliou Oumarou, former President of the Union, as well as two members of the Executive Committee of the Union, Ms. Fadimato Osmanou and Ms. Pamela Derom. They participated in ICESCO’s 2021 Program: Leadership Training in Peace and Security (LTIPS) for the benefit of women and youth.
During the visit, which comes after the inauguration of PYU’s new headquarters in Rabat and the election of its new Executive Committee, the delegation met Dr. Abdelilah Benarafa, ICESCO Deputy Director-General, who stressed the Organization’s support for its peace ambassadors in their new missions and its willingness to cooperate with PYU in its areas of competence, reiterating the Organization’s commitment to strengthen youth leadership capacities, especially in the field of peace and security.
The delegation also held a meeting with Ms. Ramata Almamy Mbaye, Head of ICESCO Social and Human Sciences Sector, and her team. The meeting explored prospects and proposals for cooperation between the Organization and the Union and ways to support ICESCO ambassadors for peace to discharge their duties in various African countries.
