    Honoring a number of talented children with disabilities at ICESCO pavilion at Rabat Book Fair

    As part of its pavilion at the International Publishing and Book Fair in Rabat, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), on Saturday (June 10, 2023), honored several talented people with disabilities, who overcame difficulties and had inspiring experiences in which they turned challenges into a motivation for success and creativity.


    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General, was keen to participate in these activities, listen to those innovators, talk to them and present them with memorial shields and certificates of appreciation.
    The activities included a meeting with Samia Hajeb, student at the Economics Department at Mohammed V University in Rabat, who shared her academic path and the difficulties she faced due to her disability, stressing that those people have great capacities that enable them to succeed in various fields of life. She thanked ICESCO for giving her the opportunity to share her experience and make the voice of the people with disabilities heard.


    The pavilion also hosted a plastic arts workshop for the benefit of a group of children from Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, during which they drew a number of artistic paintings, showcasing their ability to express themselves in various artistic forms.


    Afterward, ICESCO Director-General handed an honorary shield to Samia Hajeb in appreciation of her efforts and successes, and presented children with disabilities from Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth with certificates of appreciation. He thanked the Foundation and the parents of the children, stressing that hosting those children is one of the best moments at ICESCO’s pavilion.


    ICESCO’s pavilion started its activities with a presentation by Mr. Aziz Al-Hajir, Programs Manager at ICESCO Education Sector, on the Organization’s educational initiatives for eradicating women’s illiteracy and social and economic rehabilitation for women, followed by a presentation by Dr. Muhammad Aba Osman, Expert at ICESCO Culture and Communication Sector, on the major outputs of ICESCO International Conference on Preserving Cultural Heritage in the Lake Chad Basin.


    The pavilion programme also included an intellectual dialogue with Dr. Ahmed Ismaili, on his book “Arabic Rhetoric and Western Rhetoric: Expression and Metaphors,” moderated by Dr. Mohamed Al-Jarti, Professor at Ibn Tufail University in Kenitra.


    The following activity featured the presentation of the results of the opinion poll on “the best books for children,” which was implemented throughout the Book Fair days, within the framework of ICESCO’s Children Digital Library Project. The winners in the poll received tablets.


    The pavilion concluded its activities with a workshop for children, moderated by Dr. Hassan El-Hajjami, Expert at ICESCO Human and Social Science Sector, which tackled the topic of “Bullying: Prevention and Awareness Activities.”

    Azoulay at ICESCO: Education on values of coxistence and acceptance of diversity is the basis for building a bright future

    As part of the “Interviews for the Future” initiative, launched by the Strategic Foresight Center of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Organization hosted Mr. Andre Azoulay, Advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Morocco, at its headquarters in Rabat on Friday, 9 June 2023. During the event, Mr. Azoulay delivered a lecture emphasizing the factors necessary for shaping the future and the importance of preserving identity and educating the younger generation on the values of coexistence and acceptance of diversity as sources of strength, drawing on Morocco’s experience in this context.

    The event, which saw the presence of high-level officials, ambassadors and academics, began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General (DG), where he expressed his gratitude to Mr. Azoulay for accepting ICESCO’s invitation to address this critical issue, which holds special significance in the Organization’s forward-looking vision and strategic orientations.

    ICESCO Training Workshop in Chad Explores Using ICT in Environmental and Health Education

    The Education Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) is holding a “Training Workshop on Ways to Use ICT in Environmental and Health Education” in the city of N’Djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad, in cooperation with the Chadian Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion and coordination with the ICESCO Regional Educational Center in Chad, for the benefit of several mentors and inspectors working in the educational field.

    The four-day workshop, which kicked off on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, aims at building the capacities of technical and educational professionals in the field of using ICT in environmental and health education, developing technology-oriented national policies, producing the necessary digital materials, strengthening the role of Arab-Islamic educational institutions in education to raise awareness about sustainable development issues. Additionally, to develop a unified vision on the mechanisms of investing ICT in environmental and health education and strengthening the efforts of actors in using ICT and exchanging expertise and experiences among them.

    Dr. Benarafa delivered an address during the opening session, in which he highlighted the academic achievements and status of Sheikh Abdelhamid Ahsayn and Sheikh Omar Al-Rish in Morocco during the reign of His Majesty King Hassan II, may Allah have mercy on him, who founded Dar Al-Qur’an and Dar Al-Hadith Al-Hasaniya, and placed at their head the best scholars and sheikhs of Morocco.

    ICESCO participates in Ministerial Conference on Social Development in OIC Member States

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Social Development in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Cairo on June 5-6, 2023, under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The event is held by the Egyptian Ministry of Solidarity and OIC, under the theme: “Social Justice and Social Security.”
    During the opening session, Turkey handed the conference’s presidency over to Egypt. The second session highlights the efforts of OIC Member States, organs and institutions to combat violence against children, eradicate child labor, empower women and bolster social welfare initiatives for the elderly.


    Ms. Ramata Almamy Mbaye, Head of ICESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector, and Ms. Amira El Fadil, Advisor to ICESCO Director-General for External Relations represented the Organization at the conference.

    ICESCO hosts an introductory meeting of Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), reaffirmed that Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature mirrors the great priority that the Sultanate of Oman attaches to culture and creators.

    This came in his address, on Tuesday (6 June 2023), during the introductory meeting of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature, in its tenth edition, organized by the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Kingdom of Morocco, at ICESCO Headquarters, in Rabat, during which representatives of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, supervisor of the award, made a presentation on the award.

    At the outset of his address, Dr. AlMalik praised the attributes of the Sultanate of Oman and the Omanis, and the ongoing development in Oman to build the human capital people and the infrastructure, adding that the Sultanate of Oman is full of cultural scenes, which highlight that it is well-educated country.

    He explained that ICESCO hosts this introductory meeting as part of the Organization’s cooperation with the Sultanate in the fields of culture, thought and creativity, and stands as an example of ICESCO’s cooperation with its Member States.

    The two-day training session on “Innovative methods for teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers,” held by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in cooperation with Keio University in Japan, closed its proceedings. The session is aimed at enhancing the skills of Arabic teachers who teach non-Arabic speakers in Japan, and introducing them to innovative approaches and methodologies in this field, while also providing insights into the unique characteristics of the Arabic language and how to effectively teach it.

    In her address during the closing ceremony of the session, Dr. Kaoru Yamamoto, Professor of Policy Management at Keio University, Head of the Arabic Language Laboratory, conveyed her gratitude and appreciation to ICESCO for holding this outstanding session in cooperation with the University for the benefit of Arabic teachers in Japan, noting that she is looking forward to further cooperation in this area.

    The Sector of Education at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) held a training workshop in the field of designing and developing training and e-learning projects and preparing online courses. The workshop was held on Monday, June 5, 2023, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in cooperation with the National Commission for ICESCO and the Virtual University of Côte d’Ivoire, under the patronage of Dr. Adama Diawara, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the Ivorian National Commission.

    The second conference on “The Challenges of Teaching Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers: Development and Cooperation Opportunities,” organized in partnership between the ICESCO Center of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers and Al-Akhawayn University, at the Al-Akhawayn University’s headquarters, in Ifrane, Kingdom of Morocco, in cooperation with specialized institutions from the United States of America, Canada, Britain, Spain and Côte d’Ivoire, concluded its proceedings.

    The conference, held on 1-3 June 2023, comes within the framework of the “First International Spring University: Values of Education and Education on Values.”

    In his address during the opening session of the conference, chaired by Dr. Amine Bensaid, President of Al Akhawayn University, Dr. Majdi Haji Ibrahim, Head of ICESCO Center of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers, welcomed the Spring University project, which is an opportunity to launch an alliance based on education, values, fairness and quality, and stressed the Center’s willingness to join this alliance.

The theme of this year is “Combating Plastic Pollution.” the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) siezes this opportunity to call on countries, regional institutions and international organizations to join efforts to combat plastic pollution, warn against its dangers, encourage the production and distribution of recyclable products, and invest in scientific research to develop sustainable and safe means and mechanisms for the use of plastic.

    Given the negative impact of pollution in general, and plastic pollution in particular, on health, society and the economy, ICESCO stresses the importance of mobilizing the international community’s efforts to preserve the environment and biodiversity worldwide, and warn against the scale of this type of pollution.
