In Their First Meeting, Dr. AlMalik and New OIC Secretary-General Discuss Prospects for Partnership and Institutional Complementarity

Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), met with Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on Sunday, 13 September 2026, at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. AlMalik congratulated Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his unanimous election as Secretary-General of the Organization during the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, recently held in Jeddah, wishing him every success in leading the course of joint Islamic action.
The meeting featured in-depth discussions on ways to strengthen institutional complementarity and the strategic partnership between the OIC General Secretariat and ICESCO, with a view to establishing implementation mechanisms for joint programs and projects that respond to the priorities of Member States in the fields of education, science and culture.
The discussions also focused on launching high-impact initiatives to harness the potential of youth and develop future talent, while further promoting the values of dialogue, tolerance and civilizational coexistence, in a manner that strengthens the Islamic world’s presence on the international stage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the ICESCO Director-General extended an official invitation to the Secretary-General to visit the Organization’s headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, to learn more about its programs and lay the foundations for a new phase of joint development and cultural action.
The Secretary-General expressed his thanks and appreciation for the kind invitation, affirming the General Secretariat’s commitment to operationalizing the partnership and integrating efforts in the service of the peoples of the Islamic world.
