    ICESCO Signs Agreements in the Field of Technology and Innovation with Three Institutions

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) signed three agreements for cooperation and partnerships in the field of technology and innovation, on November 28, 2022, respectively with the Higher Education Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the World Business Angels Investment Forum, and the MILO Space Science Institute in the United States, during the conclusion of ICESCO’s Youth Training Programme on how to establish and develop small businesses in the field of technology and innovation.

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director General, signed the first agreements with Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Pakistani Higher Education Commission. It includes joint action between the two parties to establish joint research projects and training programs in the field of higher education from 2023 to 2027 to promote the academic performance of researchers and university students of ICESCO Member States.

    The second agreement was signed with Mr. Baybars Altuntas, Chairman of the World Business Angels Investment Forum, an affiliate partner of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), to build cooperation for implementing initiatives, programs and joint projects in the field of supporting the economic development of emerging companies in the countries of the Islamic world.

    The third agreement was signed with Mr. David E. Thomas, Executive Director of the MILO Space Science Institute, signed the third agreement, which aims at implementing joint programs between ICESCO and the Institute to build capacity in the field of space sciences, entrepreneurship, technology, and youth development in the ICESCO Member States.

    After the signing, Dr. AlMalik commended the three distinguished partnerships, hoping that the cooperation agreements would be a good start to support and assist young entrepreneurs and investors in Islamic countries and to pave the way toward better opportunities in the field of modern and advanced technologies.     ICESCO awards prizes to winners in its youth training program in technology and innovation

    On Monday (November 28, 2022), the Headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in Rabat, witnessed a major international celebration marking the conclusion of the ICESCO Youth Training Programme on the Development of Small Technology and Innovation Businesses, with the participation of the 18 winning teams in the Programme’s competitions, which were held in six countries. The winners presented their projects before the jury, which selected 3 teams to receive funding for their projects.

    The celebration witnessed high-level participation, including international officials, ministers, donor institutions and experts in the field of technology and scientific research.

    It saw several discussion sessions on the importance of developing startups and qualifying women through entrepreneurship in the era of technology and digitization.

    The celebration began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a summary of the previous stages of the programme presented by Dr. Raheel Qamar, Head of ICESCO Science and Technology Sector.

    In the opening session, Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General, underscored that the Organization seeks to promote creativity through its programmes, activities and forward-looking vision aimed at helping young entrepreneurs achieve economic development in their countries.

    He also congratulated the participants in the programme, which was launched in 2021, aiming at promoting and sustaining start-ups in the Islamic world, launching more than 150 startups by the end of 2025, training more than 500 entrepreneurs, and developing about 60 creative project ideas.

    In his address, Dr. Younes Sekkouri, Moroccan Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, stressed the importance of innovation for countries’ development and positive change, and the need to provide a suitable environment for young people to encourage creativity and consolidate innovation.

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received a delegation from the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, headed by Dr. Sara Al-Otaibi, IPA Deputy Director-General for Partnerships and Business Development, where they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between ICESCO and IPA in the areas of common interest.

    At the outset of the meeting, held on Sunday (November 27, 2022) at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, Dr. AlMalik reiterated his thanks to IPA and its Director General, Dr. Bandar bin Asad Al-Sajan, for their cooperation and the study conducted to develop the organizational structure of ICESCO.

    Great Success and participation in ICESCO Marathon for Social Cohesion in Rabat

    Under the theme: “All for Social Cohesion”, The first edition of the ICESCO Marathon saw wide participation from various groups who compete to win first places in this event, which was organized on, Sunday, November 27, 2022, by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in partnership with the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, and the Royal Moroccan Federation for School Sports, in coordination with the Wilaya of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region.

    The marathon, which was held on a 7-kilometer track, starting from ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, represented a message to all stakeholders to join efforts in order to consolidate social cohesion and resilience, utilize sports activities to promote social welfare and peace and achieve cohesive and resilient societies.

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director General, signaled the start of the marathon, in the presence of Mr. Jamal Eddine El Aloua, Secretary General of the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, and Ms. Nozha Bidwan, Moroccan Olympic champion, as well as public figures and representatives of several ministries, diplomatic missions and civil society organizations.

    Closing of the 2022 edition of ICESCO’s Leadership Training Programme for Peace and Security

    ICESCO’s Youth and Women Leadership for Peace and Security Programme (LTIPS) and the International Workshop on Youth Incubator for Peace Projects, held by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, wrapped up on Saturday, 26 November 2022.

    ICESCO and UAE National Commission signed an MoU on the inscription of African traditional games on the Heritage Lists

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science on a project to inscribe traditional African games on ICESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage and World Heritage Lists.

    The MoU was signed virtually on Friday 25 November 2022 by Dr. Abdelilah Benarafa, Deputy Director-General, and Mr. Mubarak Al-Nakhi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, Vice -Chairman of the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.

    At the end of the signing ceremony, Dr. Benarafa welcomed the efforts of the United Arab Emirates to support the Organization’s Member States, particularly African countries, in the fields of education and culture, mentioning in this regard the support provided for the inscription of the endangered heritage in these countries. He also praised the remarkable partnership between ICESCO and the UAE National Commission.

    For his part, Mr. Al Nakhi welcomed the cooperation with ICESCO in preserving the tangible and intangible heritage of the UAE, stressing that heritage is the legacy that is passed on between generations and the receptacle that preserves their identity and specificities.     On Thursday, November 24, 2022, the four-day regional workshop on capacity building of intangible cultural heritage professionals concluded its proceedings at the headquarters of the International University of Africa in Khartoum, Republic of the Sudan.     Dr. Ahmed Al-Fakkak, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities of the Republic of Iraq, and his delegation visited the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).     The launch ceremony saw high-level participation, including ministers, experts and representatives of specialized regional and international institutions.
