The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Islamic Organization for Food Security, the Ministry of Agriculture of Burkina Faso, and AgriEdge organized a regional training session on “Digital Agricultural Mechanization and Cooperative Systems for Food Security in West Africa” in Ouagadougou for 30 experts and specialists in food security and agriculture.

Held from 1 to 3 September 2026, under ICESCO’s program on “Innovative Agricultural Supply Chains in Africa,” the training included practical sessions and case study activities to assess agricultural value chains in Burkina Faso, as well as activities to identify challenges and explore the use of digital technologies to improve productivity. It aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and tools in digital agriculture, agricultural mechanization, cooperative systems, and innovative approaches to strengthening food security.

In his statement via videoconference, Dr. Issam Krimi, Head of the Innovation and Creativity Division within the Science and Environment Sector at ICESCO, stressed the importance of concerted efforts among international organizations, government entities, and the private sector to address food security challenges in Africa and promote sustainable agricultural transformation.

At the close of the training, a cooperative alliance bringing together ICESCO, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and AgriEdge was announced. The initiative aims to map maize and rice production in Burkina Faso through the use of remote sensing and artificial intelligence technologies.
