ICESCO Chair at University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Oman Holds Workshop on AI Ethics in Education and Health

The ICESCO Chair for Artificial Intelligence Ethics at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the Sultanate of Oman organized a workshop on AI ethics in education and health. The two-day event was held on 30 November – 1 December 2025, at Sultan Qaboos University, in partnership with the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence hosted at the same university.

The first day featured two sessions attended by academics, researchers, professionals, and students from various institutions. As part of the same day’s proceedings, Dr. Musab Al-Rawi, Head of the ICESCO Chair for Artificial Intelligence Ethics at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, moderated a workshop titled, “From Vision to Institutional Ethical Framework,” which addressed mechanisms for translating AI ethics principles into actionable policies within educational institutions, focusing on transparency, student privacy protection, and responsible AI use in teaching.

In addition, Prof. Vanessa Nurock, Head of the UNESCO Chair in the Ethics of the Living and the Artificial (EVA) at Côte d’Azur University in France, presented a workshop on the concept of “Ethics by Inclusion and Design.” Prof. Nurock highlighted methods for integrating ethics into the design stages of intelligent systems and shared findings from the European “Miracle” project, which specializes in AI applications in the healthcare sector.

The second day continued with an extensive panel discussion, opened by Prof. Abdulnasir Hossen, Head of the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence. The sessions explored challenges related to AI ethics in education, the future of learning in the era of smart technologies, and ethical issues in healthcare, including the responsibility of intelligent systems in making diagnostic decisions.
