Signing of Agreement to Establish the Prince Mohammad bin Fahd-ICESCO Chair for Human Leadership in Saudi Arabia

    8 September 2025

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University (PMU) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed an agreement to establish the Prince Mohammad bin Fahd-ICESCO Chair for Intergenerational Human Leadership and Building Future Societies. The Chair aims to promote knowledge and leadership in human action by fostering social innovation, encouraging participation in policymaking and forward-looking research, and developing ethical and innovative human policies. It also aims to empower new generations of human leaders in the Islamic world.

Dr. Salim AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General, and Dr. Issa bin Hassan Al Ansari, PMU’s President, signed the agreement on Monday, September 8, 2025, at ICESCO’s headquarters in Rabat in the presence of a number of ICESCO and PMU leaders.

Before signing the agreement, Dr. AlMalik and Dr. Al Ansari held an extended meeting with a host of sector heads, center and department directors, and academic leaders from the Organization and the University. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two parties in areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Dr. AlMalik stressed that this agreement marks the beginning of a distinguished strategic partnership between ICESCO and PMU. This is particularly significant given the shared lofty goals of both parties in the areas of human action, preparing young people for future professions, and building innovative, sustainable societies.

For his part, Dr. Al Ansari expressed his desire to strengthen academic cooperation between the two institutions and praised ICESCO’s leading role in developing education, science, and culture in its Member States.

During the meeting, ICESCO leaders reviewed the Organization’s most prominent programs, activities, and initiatives launched and implemented within the Islamic world as part of the Organization’s new vision and strategic orientations.

After signing the agreement, Dr. AlMalik gave Dr. Al Ansari and his delegation a tour of ICESCO’s sectors, centers, and departments. The delegation learned about ICESCO’s administrative structure updates and developments to keep pace with the requirements and aspirations of its Member States in education, science, and culture. These changes are reflected in the prestigious international certificates that the Organization has recently received.

The University delegation also visited the Exhibition and Museum of the Prophet’s Seerah and Islamic Civilization. Currently housed at the ICESCO headquarters, the Museum has already received over eight million visitors.
