ICESCO Joins International Telecommunication Union as a Member
13 August 2025
The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has been officially admitted as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), one of the United Nations’ leading specialized agencies in global information and communication technologies.
This step aligns with ICESCO’s strategic vision to support digital transformation and expand international cooperation in innovation and information and communication technologies.
This membership, approved during the ITU Council’s annual session, held in Geneva in June 2025, crowns ICESCO’s sustained efforts to strengthen its presence within specialized international organizations and bodies, broaden its network of strategic partnerships, advance its overarching goals, and enhance its capacity to support Member States in building inclusive and sustainable digital societies capable of keeping pace with rapid technological change.
The membership opens broad prospects for joint action with leading international actors in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, and telecommunications infrastructure development. It will also enable ICESCO to contribute to shaping international policies and technical standards with direct impact on the digital economy and sustainable development.
ICESCO has also worked to enhance its internal digital infrastructure through its Digital Transformation Department, which launched a set of technological initiatives and successfully obtained several international ISO certifications in quality management, information security, and business continuity, reflecting its commitment to applying the highest global standards.
Innovation holds a central place among ICESCO’s institutional values, as evidenced by its recent attainment of the Certified Innovative Organization from the Global Innovation Institute (GInI), an international recognition of its ability to transform creative ideas into practical solutions that advance sustainable development.
