    ICESCO and Indonesia Discuss Ways to Strengthen Cooperation in Education, Science and Culture

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), met with Mr. Fazli Zon, Indonesian Minister of Culture, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan. The two officials discussed ways to enhance cooperation between ICESCO and Indonesia in the fields of education, science, culture, and heritage preservation and promotion, and examined the programs and initiatives proposed for joint implementation in the coming period.

    During the meeting, Dr. AlMalik reviewed the main pillars of the Organization’s vision and strategic orientations, as well as its programs and projects on youth and women capacity building, consolidating the values of coexistence, peace and civilizational dialogue, countering extremist ideas, encouraging investment in technology, innovation, artificial intelligence and space sciences, spreading the culture of foresight, and enhancing the status of the Arabic language globally.

    ICESCO Director General expressed his aspiration to expand the scope of cooperation with Indonesia in the coming period, especially in the field of heritage preservation and promotion, calling for increasing the number of inscribed Indonesian tangible and intangible heritage sites on ICESCO’s Islamic World Heritage List.

    For his part, Mr. Fazli Zon stressed his keenness to enhance cooperation with ICESCO given its esteemed status in the Islamic world, pointing out that the Ministry, as part of its new orientations, seeks to protect and promote all forms of heritage, which provides room for enhancing cooperation and joint work with the Organization.
