15 May 2025
The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) took part in the international symposium titled “Anticipating Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Work,” organized by the Supreme Judicial Council of the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat, under the auspices of H.E. Shaikh Ghosn bin Hilal al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution (SAI). The event brought together senior-level judges, legal scholars, and AI experts from Oman and abroad.
The two-day conference, which concluded on Thursday 15 May 2025, addressed the legal, technical, and ethical challenges associated with the integration of artificial intelligence into judicial systems. ICESCO was represented by Dr. Kaïs Hammami, Head of the Center for Foresight and Artificial Intelligence, who delivered a presentation on “Comprehensive Foresight Approach to Artificial Intelligence in Judiciary.” Dr. Hammami underlined the importance of anticipating potential scenarios involving AI in judicial procedures, stressing that foresight enables the identification of opportunities, risks, and challenges, and contributes to developing proactive strategies that strengthen AI’s role in advancing justice.
Additionally, Dr Hammami underscored the fast-paced evolution of the digital landscape and the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of judicial systems. He emphasized that AI now constitutes a dynamic and influential force in today’s world, with a growing impact on the structures, ethical foundations, and operational functions of justice institutions globally.
The conference featured eleven research papers presented across three main themes: legal, ethical, and security challenges of using AI in judicial work; AI applications in judicial procedures; and future developments and international cooperation in judicial AI integration.
