    22 October 2024

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), through its regional office in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, is organizing a climate leadership training camp for a group of young people from several countries in the Islamic world. The aim is to build their capacity to develop and implement innovative projects related to climate action, and to contribute to the creation of a generation of young leaders capable of tackling the climate challenges that threaten the future of the planet.

The camp, which kicked off on Monday, October 21st, 2024 at the headquarters of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), will last for 03 days. It is part of ICESCO’s new vision and strategic orientations, and is one of a series of training camps being held by the organization in several of its Member States. The event brings together a host of speakers and participants from different countries of the Islamic world, in cooperation with several entities and institutions in the United Arab Emirates.

In his opening speech, Mr. Salim Omar Salim, Director of the ICESCO Regional Office in Sharjah, stressed the importance of this camp in integrating young people and harnessing their creativity to find sustainable and innovative solutions to preserve ecosystems, mitigate the effects of climate change and invest in green technologies and renewable energy.

It is worth mentioning that this camp, organized by ICESCO, consists of three sessions: an Asian session to be held in Indonesia in June 2024, the Arab session currently underway in Sharjah, and an African session. A final session will be held in Azerbaijan, where young people will present their proposals for innovative solutions to climate-related issues.
