Financial support from ICESCO for 500 Palestinian students at Egyptian universities

    28 March 2024

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) granted financial support to 500 Palestinian students, as part of the support program for Palestinian students studying at Egyptian universities, under the patronage of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, and in cooperation with the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The financial support was delivered to the first group of beneficiaries at the headquarters of the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, where it was distributed in two batches for the benefit of 500 male and female students, with a total of 200,000 US dollars.

The support reflects ICESCO’s vision and strategic orientations in supporting the efforts of its Member States in the fields of education, science and culture, and its initiatives to support young people, especially Palestinians and their families in light of the brutal aggression they are facing. For record, last November, ICESCO also granted financial support to Palestinian students studying in a number of Moroccan universities.

The distribution of support to the first group of beneficiaries was attended by Dr. Ali Zidan Abu Zuhri, Chairman of the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and Dr. Dawas Dawas, Secretary-General of the Commission, Chairman of ICESCO’s Executive Council, and on behalf of Dr. Salim Al-Malik, ICESCO Director-General, Mrs. Amira El-Fadil, Advisor to the Director General for External relations, Dr. Naji al-Naji, Cultural Advisor to the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt, and Mr. Omar Khalouk, Financial Auditor at ICESCO’s Financial Controller’s Office, and a number of officials in the Commission and the Palestinian Embassy.

Dr. Abu Zuhri appreciated ICESCO’s roles and sustained support for the efforts of the State of Palestine in the fields of education, science and culture, praising ICESCO’s initiative to support Palestinian university students in Morocco and Egypt.
