ISESCO Director General meets OIC Secretary General in Jeddah
The Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, today in his office in Jeddah, received Dr. Salim AlMalik, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues of common interest relating to the nature of the relationship and partnership between ISESCO and the OIC General Secretariat.
In this connection, they two parties agreed on strengthening cooperation between the two organizations, through cooperating and partnering in all co-organized conferences and seminars, achieving complementarity and coordination in their joint programmes and activities, avoiding overlap, and sorting out issues of financial and logistical support. They also agreed that ISESCO would manage the OIC Liaison Office to UNESCO.
In order to serve Member States and promote joint Islamic action, new and emerging areas of cooperation between the two organizations will be identified during the visit of the OIC Secretary General with a high-level delegation to ISESCO headquarters in Rabat in July.
It is worth noting that ISESCO signed agreements and memoranda of understanding with a number of OIC institutions, including the Islamic Development Bank (IDB); Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH); Islamic Academy of Sciences; Bayt Mal Al Qods Asharif Agency; Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA); Islamic University in Niger; International Islamic Fiqh Academy; Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation; Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation; Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States; Islamic Broadcasting Union; International Union of Muslim Scouts; Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC); Union of OIC News Agencies; and Islamic Committee of the International Crescent.
