On occasion of Pope Francis’ visit, ISESCO Director General reaffirms interfaith cooperation key to firmly establish global peace and security and eliminate hate speech and religious extremism

The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, hailed the visit of Pope Francis to the Kingdom of Morocco on 30-31 March 2019, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, while praising its lofty objectives of spreading values of interfaith respect, tolerance and cooperation and promoting the humanitarian dimension of the migration issue.

On this occasion, Dr Altwaijri described Pope Francis’ visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, ISESCO Member State renowned for its tolerance and respect for religious and cultural diversity, as a historic event of deep significance, amid the runaway mutations and unfolding regional and international events which threaten global peace and security and impede the international community’s efforts for the promotion of intercultural dialogue, alliance of civilizations, interfaith coexistence and dissemination of values of tolerance, mutual respect and coexistence.

He also reaffirmed that the visit is of utmost importance as it will bring together the Monarch of Morocco, the Commander of the Faithful of a nation with millennia-old civilization, and Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, which constitutes an effective contribution to the noble efforts of the dissemination of peace and security across the world.
