On the occasion of celebratingof Bandar Seri Begawan as the Asian region’s  Capital of Islamic Culture for 2019: Organization of Exhibition on Bandar Seri Begawan Architectural and Monuments Trail

On the occasion of the celebration of Bandar Seri Begawan as the Asian region’s Capital of Islamic Culture for 2019, the Exhibition on Bandar Seri Begawan Architectural and Monuments Trail was opened as part of implementating a programme of various cultural activities on the city’s cultural history, figures, academic and civilizational contributions to Islamic heritage, historical landmarks and cultural centers. The programme also includes book fairs, introductory posters, and artistic paintings; visits to museums, archeological landmarks and historic libraries; exhibitions of various handicrafts, artistic events and festivals, and media days; and contests for young creators, and awards and tributes for figures who have served the cultural scene in the city.

It is worth mentioning that four cities will be celebrated as capitals of Islamic culture for 2019, namely Al-Quds and Tunis for the Arab region, Bandar Seri Begawan for the Asian region, and Bissau for the African region.

It is also worth noting that ISESCO prepared a comprehensive conceptualization for the Islamic Culture Capitals Programme wherein it suggested 30 capitals from the Arab, Asian and African regions to be the capitals of Islamic culture for the upcoming ten years, with Makkah Al-Mukkaramah as the first celebrated city. The 4^th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers (ICCM) (Algiers, 17 December 2004), the 6^th ICCM (Baku, 15 October 2009) and the 9^th ICCM (Muscat, 4 November 2015) adopted the lists of Capitals of Islamic Culture for 2005-2025.
