    The International Conference on Lifelong Learning concludes with issuing a set of recommendations

    After two days of rich discussions and exchange of visions, ideas, expertise and pioneering experiences on mechanisms for developing lifelong learning and literacy programs, the International Conference on Lifelong Learning, held at the headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in Rabat, concluded its proceedings, on Tuesday (June 13, 2023), and issued a set of recommendations to adopt effective and innovative approaches in the field of adult education and literacy.

    The recommendations of the conference, organized by ICESCO, in partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, the Moroccan National Agency for Combating Illiteracy, the National Institute for Lifelong Learning of the Republic of Korea, UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and the Global Partnership for Education, stressed the need to strengthen partnerships and international cooperation, exchange outstanding practices in the field of lifelong learning, mobilize resources to provide adequate funding, integrate communication and information technology, and provide everyone with modern skills.


    The participants agreed on the importance of the Korean experience in the field of lifelong learning, and the need to benefit from it to enhance learning opportunities for all in Muslim countries.

    The second day of the conference featured a session on “Transforming adult learning…effective practices for reducing illiteracy in Africa: skills for life,” which included interventions by participants about projects, programs and activities aimed at eradicating illiteracy, and the importance of these initiatives to ensure lifelong learning for all.

    The second session tackled the importance of international cooperation in promoting adult education and lifelong learning. Participants shared their experiences in the fields of international cooperation to enhance knowledge, implement joint programs, and establish more equitable and comprehensive policies.

    These sessions featured rich discussions, in which the audience asked several questions about training systems in the field of literacy and the challenges facing the implementation of lifelong learning programs.

    In conclusion, Dr. Barry Koumbou, Head of ICESCO Education Sector, gave an address wherein she praised the ideas, experiences and knowledge presented by the participants, stressing the Organization’s willingness to cooperate with parties of common interest to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

    ICESCO and Federation of Universities of Islamic World hold conference in Yaoundé on cultural policy and peacebuilding

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and its affiliated Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) held an international conference on “Cultural Policy and Peacebuilding in Developing Countries” at the Institute of International Relations of the University of Yaoundé II in the Republic of Cameroon, within the framework of the celebration program of Yaoundé as the Culture Capital in the Islamic World and ICESCO Chair on Cultural Diversity, Peace and International Cooperation.

    During the opening of the two-day conference, which concluded on Wednesday (June 14, 2023), Dr. Omar Halli, Advisor to ICESCO Director-General for the FUIW, highlighted ICESCO’s programs for university networking, with special support for the programs targeting youth and women as an essential pillar for spreading the culture of peace.

    For her part, Dr. Nadine Mashiko Nakameni, Vice President in charge of Research and Cooperation, stressed that there is no specific concept of culture because it results from disagreement and it represents everything that man has invented to make recovery life better.

    The conference, which witnessed the participation of a number of professors and representatives of bodies, ministries and Cameroonian Parliament, aimed to enhance countries’ capabilities to reduce conflicts and war situations and ensure recovery by contributing to peace-building and sustainable and comprehensive development in developing countries.

    ICESCO DG also pointed out that the prize is named after the late revered scholar, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose remarkable legacy lives on through his sons.     Dr. Salim M. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports of the Kingdom of Morocco, a delegation of representatives from the Hamdan Foundation and several senior officials and ambassadors.

    During the inauguration ceremony, the attendees listened to an introductory presentation and watched a video about the MESHKAT Network System.     Dr. Salim M.     At the outset of the ceremony, held on Sunday, 11 June 2023, in ICESCO’s pavilion at the Rabat International Book Fair, Dr. AlMalik, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, for granting his patronage to the 28th session of the fair, hailing his steadfast commitment to supporting cultural, communication and youth-oriented activities.

    Honoring a number of talented children with disabilities at ICESCO pavilion at Rabat Book Fair

    As part of its pavilion at the International Publishing and Book Fair in Rabat, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), on Saturday (June 10, 2023), honored several talented people with disabilities, who overcame difficulties and had inspiring experiences in which they turned challenges into a motivation for success and creativity.


    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General, was keen to participate in these activities, listen to those innovators, talk to them and present them with memorial shields and certificates of appreciation.
    The activities included a meeting with Samia Hajeb, student at the Economics Department at Mohammed V University in Rabat, who shared her academic path and the difficulties she faced due to her disability, stressing that those people have great capacities that enable them to succeed in various fields of life. She thanked ICESCO for giving her the opportunity to share her experience and make the voice of the people with disabilities heard.


    The pavilion also hosted a plastic arts workshop for the benefit of a group of children from Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, during which they drew a number of artistic paintings, showcasing their ability to express themselves in various artistic forms.


    Afterward, ICESCO Director-General handed an honorary shield to Samia Hajeb in appreciation of her efforts and successes, and presented children with disabilities from Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth with certificates of appreciation.     As part of the “Interviews for the Future” initiative, launched by the Strategic Foresight Center of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the Organization hosted Mr. Andre Azoulay, Advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Morocco, at its headquarters in Rabat on Friday, 9 June 2023. During the event, Mr. Azoulay delivered a lecture emphasizing the factors necessary for shaping the future and the importance of preserving identity and educating the younger generation on the values of coexistence and acceptance of diversity as sources of strength, drawing on Morocco’s experience in this context.

    The event, which saw the presence of high-level officials, ambassadors and academics, began with welcoming remarks by Dr. Salim M.     The Education Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) is holding a “Training Workshop on Ways to Use ICT in Environmental and Health Education” in the city of N’Djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad, in cooperation with the Chadian Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion and coordination with the ICESCO Regional Educational Center in Chad, for the benefit of several mentors and inspectors working in the educational field.

    The four-day workshop, which kicked off on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, aims at building the capacities of technical and educational professionals in the field of using ICT in environmental and health education, developing technology-oriented national policies, producing the necessary digital materials, strengthening the role of Arab-Islamic educational institutions in education to raise awareness about sustainable development issues. Additionally, to develop a unified vision on the mechanisms of investing ICT in environmental and health education and strengthening the efforts of actors in using ICT and exchanging expertise and experiences among them.

    Dr. Benarafa delivered an address during the opening session, in which he highlighted the academic achievements and status of Sheikh Abdelhamid Ahsayn and Sheikh Omar Al-Rish in Morocco during the reign of His Majesty King Hassan II, may Allah have mercy on him, who founded Dar Al-Qur’an and Dar Al-Hadith Al-Hasaniya, and placed at their head the best scholars and sheikhs of Morocco.

    ICESCO participates in Ministerial Conference on Social Development in OIC Member States

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Social Development in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Cairo on June 5-6, 2023, under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The event is held by the Egyptian Ministry of Solidarity and OIC, under the theme: “Social Justice and Social Security.”
    During the opening session, Turkey handed the conference’s presidency over to Egypt. The second session highlights the efforts of OIC Member States, organs and institutions to combat violence against children, eradicate child labor, empower women and bolster social welfare initiatives for the elderly.


    Ms. Ramata Almamy Mbaye, Head of ICESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector, and Ms. Amira El Fadil, Advisor to ICESCO Director-General for External Relations represented the Organization at the conference.
