    ICESCO and Libya Explore Latest Cooperation Developments in Education, Science and Culture

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received Dr. Musa Muhammad Al-Maqrif, Libyan Minister of Education, Chairman of the Libyan National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, and discussed cooperation developments between ICESCO and the State of Libya in the fields of education, science and culture.

    During the meeting, held on Thursday (23 June 2022), as part of the visit of the Libyan Minister of Education and his delegation to ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, in the presence of Dr. Said M’hamad Ed-Dbib, Permanent Delegation of Libya to ICESCO, Dr. AlMalik stressed ICESCO’s keenness to enhance communication with Member States’ National Commissions to identify their priorities and needs, and design country-tailored programmes and projects to implement them in cooperation with the competent authorities.


    ICESCO Director-General indicated that ICESCO’s strategic orientations focus on building the capacities of youth and women, enhancing their orientation to entrepreneurship in innovation, encouraging the Member States to invest in space sciences, capitalizing on artificial intelligence applications in the fields of education, science and culture, consolidating the values of peace, coexistence and civilized dialogue, and contributing to preserving and promoting the heritage of the Islamic world.

    The meeting touched on the key programmes, projects and training sessions that have been recently implemented in cooperation between ICESCO and the competent Libyan authorities, and the future proposals for a partnership to implement practical programmes and projects.

    For his part, Dr. Al-Maqrif expressed Libya’s pride in the constructive cooperation with ICESCO and stressed its keenness to further implement qualitative programmes and projects to achieve the desired outcomes, commending the Organization’s remarkable roles and the support it provides to the Member States in its areas of competence.

    “Meshkat Arabic Hall” Hosts Workshop for Teachers from Five Asian countries

    As part of the pilot phase of the action program of ICESCO-Hamdan Bin Rashed Network Meshkat for Educational Excellence Capacities in the field of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers, the Meshkat Arabic Hall at the Headquarters of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) hosted a workshop on “Complementarity of the four language skills in teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers.”

    The workshop was held both face-to-face and via videoconference, on Thursday, June 23, 2022, and saw the participation of five groups of national education officials working in the field of Arabic from the ICESCO Educational Center in Malaysia, Ahmad Dahlan University in Yogyakarta in Indonesia, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan in Tashkent in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Russian Islamic University in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan in the Russia Federation.


    The workshop was also attended virtually by educators in different countries, namely Djibouti, Nigeria, Thailand, Egypt, Russia and Benin. Attendees at ICESCO Headquarters included a host of researchers and young teachers of Arabic for non-Arabic speakers from Morocco and Indonesia.

    The workshop was moderated by the international training expert, Dr. Samir Jaafar, and benefited 170 educators. It aimed at helping participants achieve complementarity of education practices in teaching the various Arabic subjects to provide students with the opportunity to build their four language skills and be proficient in Arabic writing, reading, speaking and listening.

    ICESCO Director-General Receives Delegation from International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS)

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received a delegation of the participants in the 1st University Students’ Forum on Intellectual Security, held by the International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS), in the Kingdom of Morocco, on Wednesday (June 22, 2022). The delegation was headed by Dr. Zuhair Ghoneim, IUMS Secretary-General, to discover the Organization’s areas of action, programmes and activities.

    During the meeting, Dr. AlMalik highlighted the main lines of ICESCO’s vision, which aims at turning the Organization into a beacon of civilizational outreach in the fields of education, science and culture. He also explained the Organization’s programmes and activities, which focus on rehabilitating women, building their leadership capacities, and training them on leadership in security and peace as well as entrepreneurship in technology.

    Dr. AlMalik stressed that ICESCO strives to contribute to keeping Member States up to date with the tremendous developments in modern technology and encourages the promotion of innovation. It holds workshops for the benefit of young people on artificial intelligence, space science, virtual and augmented reality “Metaverse”, and document tangible and intangible heritage through its inscription on the Heritage Islamic World List.
    For his part, Dr. Zuhair Ghoneim commended ICESCO’s efforts, encouraging students to participate in its programmes to enhance experience sharing, especially in the areas of digitization and technology.

    After that, ICESCO DG responded to questions of students, encouraging them to succeed in their professional paths by facing challenges, learning from mistakes and setting clear goals for their future.

    Afterwards, the delegation toured some of ICESCO’s new facilities, including youth training incubators and Mishkat Hall, which is equipped with the latest technologies for holding remote training sessions and workshops.

    ICESCO Participates in Institutional Meeting to Present ESI’s Reform in Rabat

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the institutional meeting to present the reform of the Information Sciences School (ESI), held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the School in Rabat, to introduce the new thrusts related to engineering database and information systems. The school has carried out several reforms similar to other international schools with the same orientation.

    Affiliated with the Higher Planning Commission in the Kingdom of Morocco, ESI is the only institution for training engineers in information sciences, especially knowledge engineering, data science, digital information engineering, information systems, digital transformation engineering, documentation engineering and competitive and strategic intelligence. The School is specialized in training and scientific research with the aim of not only contributing to the promotion of information and knowledge in Morocco but also supporting the Higher Planning Commission in its major national projects, especially those related to digital transformation and enhancing Morocco’s competitiveness by providing the Moroccan labor market with highly qualified graduates in this field.

    ICESCO and FAO Explore Cooperation Prospects

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, held a meeting to explore ways to promote cooperation between the two organizations in developing agricultural technology, promoting food security and environment protection, and building women and youth capacities, especially in rural areas.

    During the meeting held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, via videoconference, the two parties discussed the mechanisms of updating the MoU signed between the two organizations to set out for new cooperation programs in the field of developing agricultural technology, capitalizing on the potential of AI applications in this field, protecting the environment, achieving food security, countering wastage, building the capacities of women and the youth in rural areas and supporting them in creating income-generating projects.

    The DG also highlighted the major projects and programs that ICESCO implements to support the efforts of its Member States to achieve sustainable development through encouraging the use of modern technology in the agricultural field and training women and young people in agricultural entrepreneurship.

    For his part, Dr. Qu Dongyu commended ICESCO’s efforts and its open-door policy, noting that the number of Member States in the two organizations will contribute to building fruitful cooperation in expertise exchange. The FAO official also stressed the importance of updating the MoU to help build leadership capacities among women and young people.

    Application Open for ICESCO Leadership Training in Peace and Security Programme 2022

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its programme ‘Leadership Training in Peace and Security 2022 (LTIPS),’ for young people from the Islamic world, under the theme “Sowing the Seeds of Peace through Mobilization of Youth and Women,” to select 30 young men and women to be eventually official peace ambassadors of ICESCO.

    The programme aims to train and mobilize young people to be ambassadors of peace and present ICESCO’s 360° peace approach. It consists of 10 training modules, focusing on the different dimensions of building and promoting peace. The training is an opportunity for young people to engage in dialogue with inspiring leaders from different generations around the world.
    At the end of the training programme, ICESCO will launch a competition for the best peace projects. The winning projects will receive awards as well as financial and technical support for the implementation of their projects. ICESCO will also hold a special ceremony to announce 30 young peace ambassadors from the 2022 cohort, who will receive orientation and support.

    For participation in LTIPS, the candidates must:
    • Be between 18 and 35 years of age by December 31, 2022;
    • Demonstrate interest in issues of peace and security, leadership and rehabilitation of women and youth either as researchers or within the framework of associations or civil society organizations;
    • Be proficient in one of ICESCO’s three working languages (Arabic – English – French) to participate in all training sessions.

    ICESCO: We are working towards promoting Al-Quds heritage and we support all activities that preserve its identity

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), stressed that the Organization continuously strives to safeguard and promote the heritage of Al-Quds, which abounds with treasure troves of monotheistic religions throughout different eras, and reflects people’s diverse cultures and plural backgrounds. He added that ICESCO stands steadfast in its refusal and rejection of all Judaization attempts and commits to supporting all projects and activities that serve and preserve the identity of Al-Quds, its Mosque, its Dome of Rock and its proud and resilient people.

    The DG made this statement in an address he gave at the celebration of the Al-Quds Activity Day, held by the Bait Mal Al-Quds Agency, the executive body of Al-Quds Committee, which is chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco.     Exploring Cooperation Avenues between ICESCO and UNAOC

    Ambassador Khalid Fathalrahman, Head of the Center of Civilizational Dialogue at the Islamic World Education, Science and Culture Organization (ICESCO), received Ms. Dana Podmolikova Project Management Specialist – Youth, at the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), to explore ways of strengthening cooperation between the two Organizations in youth capacity-building and reinforcing peace values and human coexistence, in order to achieve sustainable development.

    During the meeting, which was held on Monday, June 21, 2022, at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, Ambassador Fathalrahman reviewed the goals and missions of ICESCO Center of Civilizational Dialogue, which reflects ICESCO’s new vision and openness to various civilizations and cultures to promote coexistence and dialogue, highlighting common interests between the two Organizations, namely youth and women capacity-building and their involvement in cultural and civilizational dialogue as well as preparing peacebuilders and peace ambassadors.

    For her part, Ms. Dana Podmolikova commended ICESCO’s efforts in building communication and cooperation bridges with various organizations and institutions in the field of civilizational dialogue inside and outside the Islamic world, highlighting the role of sport in promoting dialogue and sustainable development.

    Dr. Salim M.     During the meeting, which took place on Monday, June 20, 2022, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, with the presence of Mr. Mohamed Douhour Hersi, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Kingdom of Morocco, and the delegation accompanying the Minister, Dr. AlMalik reviewed the key components of ICESCO vision and strategy, which accord great importance to youth and women capacity-building, foster scientific research in the Member States, encourage investment in space sciences and make use of artificial intelligence applications to promote education, science and culture.

    The meeting reviewed the existing cooperation between ICESCO and Djibouti and the Organization’s support in the field of teaching the Arabic language.     During the meeting, which was held on Monday, June 20, 2022, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, in the presence of Mr. Steffen Krueger, representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Morocco, Dr. AlMalik reviewed the key programmes and activities that ICESCO is currently implementing in light of its new vision and strategic orientations that rest upon openness to as well as cooperation and greater communication with not only the Member States but also the Non-Member States who are allowed to join the Organization as observers, including the Federal Republic of Germany, which is home to a vast Muslim community.
