    ICESCO Director-General Receives Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Delegation

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received a delegation from the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, headed by Ms. Sabah Mohammed Al-Maghribi, Director of ICESCO Department at the Commission, in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Amari Zayed, Permanent Representative of Libya to ICESCO. The two sides reviewed the latest developments in the distinguished partnership between the Organization and Libya in areas of common interest.

    At the beginning of the meeting, held today, Monday, August 5, 2024 at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat, Dr. Al-Malik expressed his pleasure with the positive developments in relations between the Organization and Libya, stressing his full appreciation of the Libyan leadership’s keenness to enhance cooperation with ICESCO that he noticed during his recent visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

    ICESCO DG reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to ensure the success of the activities of the celebration of Benghazi as the Culture Capital of in the Islamic World, which spans over a whole year, and its endeavor to meet Libya’s aspirations and needs in the fields of education, science and culture, through cooperation in implementing practical initiatives, programs and projects.

    For their part, the members of the Libyan delegation conveyed the greetings of Dr. Musa Al-Magariaf, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, to ICESCO DG, and expressed their thanks for giving them the opportunity to learn about the ICESCO’s action mechanisms through the meetings they will hold with all ICESCO sectors, centers and departments during the their four-day visit to ICESCO.

    The meeting reviewed the latest developments in cooperation projects between the two sides, and proposed initiatives, programs and activities that will be implemented in the near future.

    Launch of New Initiative to Integrate Foresight and Artificial Intelligence into Educational Process in Libya in Partnership with ICESCO

    As part of the partnership between the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Libyan Ministry of Education, an initiative to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the educational and pedagogical process in Libya was launched in Tripoli. This initiative supports efforts to transform education by keeping pace with digital transformation in the educational system.

    This joint initiative was launched by ICESCO, the Ministry of Education, the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, and the Libyan Delegation to the Organization. It included the convening of a three-day training, by ICESCO’s Foresight and Artificial Intelligence Centre, on strategic foresight for decision-making. This training is tailored for several officials and employees of the Libyan Ministry of Education, and aims at equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to keep pace with educational transformation and to establish a foresight unit within the Ministry. The launch also includes the development of a system for integrating AI into the educational process, with the participation of several international experts in the field.

    In his remarks at the opening of the training on Monday July 15, 2024, Dr. Musa Muhammad Al-Maqrif, Minister of Education, President of the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, expressed his gratitude to ICESCO for its cooperation with the Ministry in assessing the current situation and anticipating the future. This cooperation lays the groundwork for the initiative to integrate AI into the educational process.

    For his part, Dr. Kais Hammami, Head of ICESCO’s Foresight and Artificial Intelligence Centre, emphasized the importance of adopting a foresight approach within institutions to make proactive and informed decisions while considering ethical implications. Dr. Hammami highlighted that this training is part of ICESCO’s efforts to enhance knowledge and innovation in the Islamic world.

    Through its practical workshops, the training aims to provide participants with a deep understanding of strategic foresight tools and techniques, future thinking trends and theories, and to enhance their capabilities in planning and identifying and analyzing key factors influencing change.

    ICESCO Director-General Receives the New Libyan Delegate to the Organization

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received Dr. Mohammed Ammari Zayed, Libya’s Permanent Delegate to ICESCO at the Organization’s headquarters in Rabat to discuss the progress of the partnership between the Organization and Libya, following Dr. AlMalik’s visit to Tripoli earlier this May and his discussions with senior Libyan officials.


    The meeting, held on Thursday, 23 May 2024, began with Dr. AlMalik expressing sincere his thanks and appreciation to the Libyan Government and people for the warm reception he received during his visit to Tripoli, and for the keenness of Libyan officials to strengthen relations with ICESCO in its areas of competence.

    ICESCO reiterated its commitment to continue coordinating with Libyan stakeholders in the field of education, science, and culture, to develop the existing partnership through initiatives, programs, and projects that align with the Libya’s goals and meet its needs in these areas.
    On his part, Dr. Ammari commended ICESCO’s efforts, stating that Dr. AlMalik’s visit to Tripoli signals a new chapter in Libya-ICESCO relations. Furthermore, he highlighted the formation of a working team to prepare a detailed report on the visit’s outcomes, and to refine the discussed programs and projects joint implementation.

    Both parties agreed to have a Libyan working team visit ICESCO’s headquarters to finalize a draft executive agreement for partnership in various programs and projects. This agreement is expected to be signed in the near future. It was also agreed that ICESCO would assist Libya in capacity-building initiatives.
