    Three tech projects won at ICESCO Youth Training Program in Tunisia

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has concluded its program to train young people on how to create and develop small technology and innovation projects in the Republic of Tunisia. Tunisia is one of the 10 countries benefiting from this ambitious program in its second year, which is being implemented by the Science and Technology Sector of the Organization in Tunisia in collaboration with the business incubator “Start-Up GateX.” The three winning teams were announced from among 134 participations at the national level.

    The participating teams presented their projects during the forum, which began on Thursday, September 7, 2023, and lasted for two days in the city of Nabeul, Tunisia. They presented their projects before a jury consisting of Dr. Ismaila Diallo, expert in the sector of science and technology at ICESCO, the group of experts of the business incubator “Start-Up GateX”, as well as specialists in the field of entrepreneurship and Startup financing.

    After the evaluation, the jury announced the names of the winning teams. The first-place went to the “Cardify” team, which presented a smartwatch project that allows remote, real-time monitoring of vital signs in heart patients. The second-place was awarded to the “Intell’Eau” team, with a project for an intelligent system that tracks water consumption, detects leaks, and monitors water quality. The third-place was secured by the “Golden Medina” team for their project consisting of a platform aimed at promoting cultural heritage.

    The ICESCO Youth Training Program on how to create and develop small technology and innovation projects was implemented in 10 Member States of the Organization in its first edition in 2022. In its second annual, it has been launched in six countries so far and will be fully rolled out in ten countries by the end of 2023. This program aligns with ICESCO’s strategy, which aims to support startups in the field of innovation and technology in its Member States.

ICESCO extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and beseeches the Almighty Allah for a speedy recovery of the injured and the safety of the missing.

    ICESCO reaffirms its full solidarity with the State of Libya in the face of this devastating natural disaster, and its full readiness to cooperate with the competent Libyan authorities to provide necessary support and assistance in its areas of competence; evaluating the damage endured by some Libyan heritage sites, and their restoration and reservation.

    Having coordinated with the National Commission for Education, Science and Culture and the High Committee for the Celebration of Benghazi as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World, ICESCO decided, in solidarity with the families of the victims, the injured and the missing, to postpone until further notice the opening ceremony of celebrating Benghazi as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2023, which was scheduled for the 16th of this September.

    ICESCO Participates in Opening of 45th Session of World Heritage Committee in Saudi Arabia

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and the accompanying delegation participated in the opening ceremony of the extended 45th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, president of the current session of WHC, between 10 and 25 September 2023.

    His Highness Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, opened the session by reaffirming the Kingdom’s belief in the importance of heritage as a cultural treasure and as a human and knowledge heritage. His Highness reiterated the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to supporting cultural projects, under the supervision of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may Allah protect them.

    The Murabba Historical Palace in Riyadh was host of the ceremony organized by the Saudi ministry of culture, in the presence of Ms. Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director-General, and representatives of heritage international organizations, heads of delegation, experts, researchers and international, regional and local specialist in the field of culture and heritage.

    The extended session is the occasion for the committee to meet to decide which of the 50 sites, among which 37 are cultural and 12 natural, will be inscribed on the World Heritage List, and to discuss amendments to some heritage sites.

    Dr. Salim M.     Dr. AlMalik opened the meeting, held on 8 September 2023 at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, by congratulating Dr. Hadani on his appointment to such a prestigious position in an international organization, wishing him success in his mission stating that the Islamic World as a whole shares Morocco’s honor and pride about his achievement.

    For his part, Dr. El Hadani thanked the ICESCO Director-General for the meeting, stressing that he was keen to visit the headquarters of the Organization before leaving Rabat to assume his new duties in Vienna.

    He also noted that he had followed ICESCO’s programs and activities and its active role in the field of space sciences during his tenure as the director of the Royal Center for Remote Sensing in the Kingdom of Morocco.     ICESCO Stands in Solidarity with victims of Al Haouz earthquake and offers financial and in-kind aids

    The General Directorate of ICESCO made a set of decisions to reaffirm, along with its employees, its solidarity with the victims of the devastating earthquake in Al Haouz. ICESCO Director-General, executives and employees will donate 10% of their monthly salary, to be deposited in a special bank account at Bank Al Maghrib, following the instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to receive the voluntary solidarity contributions.

    ICESCO mobilized on Sunday 10 September 2023 in-kind aid including tents, blankets and essential foodstuffs to the regions most affected by the quake.     The workshop activities kicked off on Friday (8 September 2023), and will extend over four days at the National Museum. Its primary objective is to acquaint participants with the latest methods for identifying, documenting, and managing reserve collections, along with monitoring techniques to anticipate artwork degradation. At the workshop’s conclusion, a reclassification of the collections of Chad’s National Museum will be undertaken, with the aim of enhancing collection protection against climate-related threats.

    In Yemen’s Aden province, ICESCO and the Yemeni National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, in collaboration with the General Organization of Antiquities and Museums in Yemen, organized a workshop dedicated to enhance the skills of 35 participants working in Yemeni museums.

    The workshop, held from 5 to 7 September 2023, at the headquarters of Medalah Foundation in Aden, aimed to equip museum professionals with tourism promotion skills and knowledge on the preservation of archaeological artifacts and historic pieces.     ICESCO Holds Training Session in Rabat on Strategic Foresight as a Foundation for Decision-making

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in cooperation with the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) in the Kingdom of Morocco, conducted a training session on Strategic Foresight as a Foundation for Decision-making for the benefit of 20 senior executives and experts at CESE to enhance their capacities in strategic foresight and introduce them to the most recent concepts and mechanisms of foresight.

    Dr. Kais Hammami, Director of ICESCO Centre of Strategic Foresight and supervisor of the two-day training, which started on Wednesday, 6 September 2023 in Rabat, stressed the importance of foresight in building a better future, urged for leveraging it to determine and prepare for change factors, and outlined its multidisciplinary perspective consisting of economic, social and planning approaches.
    Mounia Haoudi Marzak, Director of Projects and Strategic Partnerships at CESE, was pleased to note the considerable interest that CESE accords to its partnership with ICESCO.

This forum was organized and hosted by the Islamic University of Mataram on Lombok Island, Indonesia, from 6 to 8 September 2023, in collaboration with the Arabic Teachers Association of Indonesia, the League of Arabic Language Teaching Institutions for Non-Arabic Speakers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth.

    Dr. Anas Hussam Saeed Al-Nuaimi, expert at the Center of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers, represented ICESCO in the forum.     During the meeting, held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat in the presence of several heads of Sectors of the Organization, Dr. AlMalik underlined the importance ICESCO attaches to its Member States in the African continent; as evidenced by the implementation of various projects and programs in the areas of modernizing educational systems, capacity-building of youth and women, promoting business leadership in technology and Artificial Intelligence, teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers, and consolidating the values of peace and civilizational dialogue.

    Furthermore, ICESCO Director-General pointed out that the Organization adopts a distinct approach of communication vis-à-vis its Member States.
