    ICESCO Director General receives Ambassador of El Salvador in Rabat

    Dr. Salim Al-Malik, Director-General (DG) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received Mr. Ignacio de Cossio, Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador to the Kingdom of Morocco. Both parties discussed prospects for cooperation between the Organization and El Salvador in the fields of education, science and culture.

    During the meeting, which took place on Thursday 15 June 2023 at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, Dr. AlMalik reviewed the key programs and activities implemented by the Organization, within the framework of its new vision and strategic orientations, which are based on openness, cooperation and further communication not only with its Member States but also with other Non-member countries which ICESCO deems eligible for obtaining the observer status.

    ICESCO DG stressed the Organization’s keenness to build fruitful cooperation between ICESCO and El Salvador in areas of common interest, especially the establishment of a center for teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers.

    For his part, the Ambassador of El Salvador to Morocco praised the roles played by ICESCO in supporting its Member States in the Organization’s fields of action, stressing his country’s keenness to cooperate with ICESCO. He also affirmed its willingness to discuss the procedures for joining the Organization as an observer country and invited ICESCO Director-General to visit the Republic of El Salvador and meet officials concerned with education, science and culture.

    ICESCO and NILE agree to promote cooperation

    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), received Dr. Dae Joong Kang, President of the National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE) of the Republic of Korea, and together they discussed ways to promote cooperation in the field of education and developing the project of building lifelong learning cities in the Islamic world.
    At the beginning of the meeting, held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at ICESCO Headquarters in Rabat, Dr. AlMalik praised the strategic partnership between ICESCO and the Institute, stressing the importance of the Member States benefiting from the Korean experience in the field of lifelong learning.

    The Director-General also expressed ICESCO’s keenness to implement the provisions of the cooperation agreement signed with the Institute and work jointly to implement programs and initiatives to strengthen educational systems, especially in the African continent.

    For his part, Dr. Dae Joong Kang highlighted the importance of ensuring education systems’ ability to keep up with world advancements, which requires exerting more efforts to capitalize on modern technology and artificial intelligence mechanisms, to ensure equitable and inclusive education for all, and provide individuals with the skills needed to face challenges and achieve sustainable development.
    The meeting discussed proposals for building lifelong learning cities in the Islamic world, building capacities, developing action plans to meet the needs of ICESCO Member States, and developing indicators and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness of these educational cities.

    At the close of the meeting, the two parties agreed to sustain coordination efforts aimed at strengthening the partnership between ICESCO and the Institute and providing all necessary means of support for activities and programs to promote the field of education in the countries of the Islamic world.

    ICESCO Director-General Participates in Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Marrakech

AlMalik, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), participated in the opening session of the Parliamentary Conference on “Interfaith Dialogue: Working Together for Our Common Future,” which kicked off on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, in Marrakech, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI – may Allah assist him, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Moroccan Parliament, in partnership with Religions for Peace, and with the support of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the Mohammadia League of Scholars.

    Dr. AlMalik commended the important elements contained in the message of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, to the conference mainly in connection with directing MPs to work on ensuring a better future for future generations to live in a world of tolerance and coexistence that rejects extremism and violence.

    ICESCO Director-General praised His Majesty’s eagerness to strengthen the status of the Kingdom of Morocco, as a model for coexistence, in which the followers of the monotheistic religions coexist in an environment of fraternity and security, in fulfillment of its long history of religious and cultural diversity and pluralism.

    ICESCO Launches International Conference on Lifelong Learning with High-Caliber Participation

    The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) launched the International Conference on Lifelong Learning, on Monday, June 12, 2023, at its headquarters in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, and the National Agency for Combating Illiteracy in the Kingdom of Morocco, the National Institute for Lifelong Learning in the Republic of Korea, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, and the Global Partnership for Education, aimed at strengthening international cooperation and intensifying efforts in the field of adult education and lifelong learning, to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.

    In his address at the opening session of the Conference with high-caliber participants, Dr. Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports in the Kingdom of Morocco, stressed the need to strive for ensuring fair and inclusive education for all, pointing out that lifelong learning is the responsibility of all and is a key factor in addressing challenges.

    For his part, Dr. Dae Joong Kang, President of the National Institute for Lifelong Education (Nile) in the Republic of Korea, reviewed the greater cooperation between the Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco in the educational field, explaining the efforts made by the Institute to ensure lifelong learning.     As part of its pavilion at the International Publishing and Book Fair in Rabat, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), on Saturday (June 10, 2023), honored several talented people with disabilities, who overcame difficulties and had inspiring experiences in which they turned challenges into a motivation for success and creativity.


    Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General, was keen to participate in these activities, listen to those innovators, talk to them and present them with memorial shields and certificates of appreciation.
    The activities included a meeting with Samia Hajeb, student at the Economics Department at Mohammed V University in Rabat, who shared her academic path and the difficulties she faced due to her disability, stressing that those people have great capacities that enable them to succeed in various fields of life. She thanked ICESCO for giving her the opportunity to share her experience and make the voice of the people with disabilities heard.


    The pavilion also hosted a plastic arts workshop for the benefit of a group of children from Lalla Asmaa Foundation for Deaf Children and Youth, during which they drew a number of artistic paintings, showcasing their ability to express themselves in various artistic forms.

During the event, Mr. Azoulay delivered a lecture emphasizing the factors necessary for shaping the future and the importance of preserving identity and educating the younger generation on the values of coexistence and acceptance of diversity as sources of strength, drawing on Morocco’s experience in this context.

    The pavilion of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), at the International Book and Publishing Fair in Rabat, on Wednesday, June 7, 2022, saw the organization of several activities that enriched discussions and interactions by ICESCO representatives.

    The activities included a lecture by Dr. Saad Abdulrahman Albazei, writer and thinker, professor of comparative literature at King Saud University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, entitled: “The Migration of Concepts: A Reading in Crossing Cultures,” where he highlighted those concepts are vocabularies that have gained knowledge accumulation as a result of the intellectual work that revolves around them and contributed to their transfer from the vocabulary level to the concept one. He also focused on the explanation and detail of the concepts of science, enlightenment and progress, noting that several concepts migrated to Arab culture and must not be taken for granted.

    Following the lecture, the floor was given to the audience for discussion as well as the questions that Dr. Albazei answered in detail, stressing that the migration of concepts, whether positive or negative, contributed to the Arab Renaissance.
