At the UN Science Summit, ICESCO Reviews its Efforts to Promote Scientific Cooperation

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the Tenth Annual Scientific Summit, held on 10-27 September 2024, as part of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss the most pressing scientific and technological challenges of our time.
ICESCO was represented at the summit by Dr. Raheel Qamar, Head of Science and Environment Sector, who stressed in his speech during the session entitled “The Importance of International Organizations in Ensuring Inclusiveness in Global Scientific Collaboration,” the pivotal role played by international organizations in developing inclusive scientific cooperation on a global scale, explaining that inclusiveness involves effective participation and empowerment of all members of the international community, which ICESCO seeks to implement by contributing to the development of a collaborative environment that promotes listening to all views and ensures that the outcomes of scientific advancement benefit all.
Dr. Qamar also highlighted ICESCO’s innovative programs and initiatives that bridge the gaps in resources, education and opportunities between Member States, particularly the youth training program for developing start-ups in the field of technology and innovation, the program for improving water and sanitation services in 1000 rural schools in Islamic countries, the program to produce 500,000 seedlings in Islamic countries, as well as other programs and initiatives that promote global environmental cooperation.
