The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and its Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World participated in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the University of the Comoros. The celebration, which was held at the University headquarters in the capital Moroni today, Thursday 23 November 2023, was presided over by H.E. Othman Ghazali, President of the Union of the Comoros, and attended by a number of ministers, the university president, professors and students.

ICESCO was represented at the celebration by Dr. Omar Halli, advisor to the Director-General for the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, and Dr. Mahamat Abba Ousman, expert at the Culture and Communication Sector. In his speech, Dr. Halli stated that the Federation will work in cooperation with the Presidency of the University of the Comoros to launch a doctoral school project and training in the field of open education, and accompany the project of establishing the faculty of medicine.

During the celebration, the participants praised the existing cooperation between ICESCO and the Union of the Comoros, especially after the visit paid by Dr. Salem Al-Malik, ICESCO Director-General, to Moroni last month.
Later, Dr. Halli held a meeting with Youssouf Takiddine, Minister of National Education, Scientific Research, Training and Vocational Integration, in the presence of Dr. Ibouroi Ali Toibibou, President of the University of the Comoros, to agree on plans for implementing cooperation projects between the two parties.
