The Culture and Communication Sector of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) took part in the third part of the First Regional Conference on Cultural Property Protection themed “Sustainable Documentation and Inventory Management”, held on June 8-12, 2023 by the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE), in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and in partnership with the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) and the US Department of State.

The Sector was represented at the conference, which took place in the Arab Republic of Egypt, by Mr. Bilel Chebbi, Expert at the Sector, who presented a scientific paper on ICESCO’s efforts in combating illicit trafficking in cultural property, in which he shed light on the Organization’s major relevant projects, namely the Islamic World Heritage Portal.

The conference aimed to establish an agreement providing common principles for successful strategies to meet the needs and challenges of managing historic sites across the region, and to make recommendations for their preservation.
