As part of the Celebration of Bandar Seri Begawan as 2019 Capital of Islamic Culture for the Asian region: ISESCO and FUIW to hold academic symposium on issues of Sacred City glorification, Brunei Darussalam

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), in cooperation with the Sacred City Glorification Project in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), will hold an academic symposium and a cultural exhibit on the issues of the Sacred City glorification, on 30 April – 01 May 2019, in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, as part of the Celebration of Bandar Seri Begawan as Asian region’s 2019 Capital of Islamic Culture.

These two events aim to publicize the Sacred City Glorification Project so as to build a common Muslim culture based on the code of conduct in the Sacred City in a bid to entrench the values of its glorification; encourage scientific research bodies, universities and centers of studies to integrate the issues of glorification in their academic research projects; promote their contribution in enriching the Glorification Observatory with the materials and statistics on the various issues of glorification; and publicize local expertise relevant to the issues of glorification through organizing Hajj journeys, changing stereotypes, dispelling doubts, and dislodging misconceptions about the Sacred City and Hajj ritual through the optimal use of information techniques and modern communication multimedia.

The symposium will present the reference guidance document on the Sacred City Glorification Project and its implementation programmes, introduce a number of academic research works on Islamic jurisprudence and literary production on the issues of glorification in the Islamic heritage; and preview the local experiences in addressing the issues of the glorification of the Scared City.

On the sidelines of the symposium, an academic meeting will be held with UNISSA postgraduate students and teaching staff to explore ways to integrate glorification issues in relevant upcoming research projects.

As for the cultural exhibit, to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan Airport, it will include pictures and scientific and media explanations on the Sacred City Glorification Project, the monuments of Makkah Al-Mukarammah, the Holy Mosque and Hajj routes.

ISESCO and the FUIW are represented in this event by Mr Mohamed Chiekhi, of the FUIW General Secretariat.
