    ICESCO and Pakistan National Commission Explore Means for Enhancing Cooperation in Technology

    Dr. Raheel Qamar, Director of the Science and Technology Sector at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), met with Mr. Syed Junaid Akhlaq, Secretary-General of the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO and ICESCO, and together they explored avenues of cooperation between the Organization and the Commission in the fields of science, technology and the provision of scholarships.

    During the meeting held today, Friday, December 31, 2021, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in the Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Qamar noted that ICESCO is working in concert with the Virtual University of Pakistan and COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) towards the implementation of several projects in the fields of sciences, technology and space science. Some of these projects are aimed at providing scholarships, fostering cooperation and partnership in the field of artificial intelligence and harnessing its applications for the development of distance learning platforms, and devising comprehensive educational programs to give impetus to the future of education and scientific research.

    Dr. Qamar emphasized that, within the framework of ICESCO’s International Network of Chairs for Science, the Organization will cooperate with Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Pakistan in establishing two scientific chairs and launching joint programmes and initiatives with the Pakistan National Commission.

    For his part, Mr. Syed Junaid Akhlaq commended ICESCO’s efforts in its areas of competence and indicated the Commission’s willingness to cooperate with the Organization in future programmes.
