Fifth Meeting of Islamic Executive Bureau for Environment at senior environment experts’ level kicks off
The Fifth Meeting of the Islamic Executive Bureau for the Environment (IEBE) at the level of senior environment experts kicked off today morning at the headquarters of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), co-held by ISESCO, the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (GAMEP) and the OIC General Secretariat.
At the opening session, addresses were delivered by ISESCO Director General, Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, read out on his behalf by Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Advisor and Supervisor of the Cabinet of ISESCO Director General; the OIC General Secretariat delivered by Dr Irfan Shaukat, OIC Director General of Science and Technology; and the address of GAMEP, read out by its Director General of Media and Public Relations, Mr Hussain Mohammed Al-Qahtani.
The agenda of the meeting features the discussion of many issues and topics relevant to five themes, namely: the “Report of the Director General on ISESCO’s Efforts in the Fields of Environment and Sustainable Development since the 7th session of the Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers”; the “Strategy for the Activation of the Roles of Cultural and Religious Factors in Protecting the Environment and Achieving Sustainable Development in the Islamic World”, the discussion of the “Guidance Document on Strengthening the Role of Youth and Civil Society in the Protection of the Environment and Achievement of Sustainable Development”, the “Project of the Establishment of the Islamic Network for Environmental Action and Sustainable Development”, the “Progress Report on the Creation of the Islamic Academy for the Environment and Sustainable Development”, the Report on the “Award of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Environmental Management in the Islamic World”, the “Report on the Programme of the Celebration of the Environmentally Friendly Islamic Capitals”, and “ISESCO Report on the Executive Work Plan for Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Member States”; the preparation for the Eighth Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers; and the adoption of the report of senior environment experts and its recommendations.
