{"id":35656,"date":"2020-08-13T16:17:56","date_gmt":"2020-08-13T15:17:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icesco.preprod.io\/2020\/08\/13\/comstech-and-icesco-provide-science-and-technology-support-to-islamic-world\/"},"modified":"2020-08-13T16:17:56","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T15:17:56","slug":"comstech-and-icesco-provide-science-and-technology-support-to-islamic-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icesco.org\/en\/2020\/08\/13\/comstech-and-icesco-provide-science-and-technology-support-to-islamic-world\/","title":{"rendered":"COMSTECH and ICESCO Provide Science and Technology Support to Islamic World"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Islamic World\nEducational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Standing\nCommittee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH)\nheld a videoconference Wednesday, August 12, to explore cooperation prospects\nbetween the two parties in the fields of science, technology, scientific\nresearch, and higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this meeting, Dr. Salim M. AlMalik,\nICESCO\u2019s Director-General, reaffirmed the Organization\u2019s keenness to cooperate\nwith the COMSTECH. He also expressed the Organization\u2019s interest in\nimplementing joint programs for the benefit of the Islamic world countries in\nthe fields of science and technology and building the capacities of scientists\nand research centers in these countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, COMSTECH\nGeneral Coordinator, welcomed ICESCO\u2019s cooperation invitation. He noted that\nthe two parties have already worked together to implement a number of joint\ninitiatives and programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several key topics figured in the\ndiscussion. First, the parties planned to organize a joint activity on\nartificial intelligence (AI), and the proposed network of universities for the\nfellowship program between the Higher Education Committee (HEC) and the\nCOMSTECH. The meeting also discussed ICESCO\u2019s participation in the second\nedition of the Robotics Competition; and the ICESCO\u2014COMSTECH joint initiative\non \u201cWomen in Science in OIC\u2019s African Member States\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two parties agreed to examine the\nactivities that can join ICESCO\u2019s and COMSTECH\u2019s teams for successful implementation.\nThe parties also agreed to plan and implement robust programs with tangible\nimpacts on science, technology, and scientific research in the Islamic world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COMSTECH is a ministerial committee, established\nin 1981, following a resolution issued by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held in\nMecca, Saudi Arabia that same year. The President of Pakistan is the chairman\nof Islamabad-based COMSTECH.
