AlMalik, examined with Dr. Rached Ghannouchi, President\nof the People\u2019s Representatives Assembly of Tunisia, a number of issues related\nto ISESCO\u2019s areas of action and the outstanding cooperation of the Republic of\nTunisia with ISESCO in organizing many activities, including the 11<sup>th<\/sup>\nIslamic Conference of Culture Ministers and the close of the celebration of\nTunis as Islamic Culture Capital for 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was\npart of a reception today by the President of the Assembly to ISESCO Director\nGeneral and his accompanying delegation at the Assembly\u2019s headquarters, during\nwhich Dr. AlMalik expressed ISESCO\u2019s deep gratitude to the President,\nGovernment and people of Tunisia for their efforts to ensure the success of the\n11<sup>th<\/sup> Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers and the celebration of\nTunis as Islamic Culture Capital for 2019 during which many important\nactivities and programmes were organized. He also stressed that the enormous\nefforts made by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs are an example to follow by\nfuture Islamic culture capitals to overcome their challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.icesco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Isesco_DG_Rached_Ghannouchi_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9990\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From his\npart, Dr. Ghannouchi stated that ISESCO plays a pivotal role in the region and\nin the Islamic world as a whole in areas key to achieving development,\nparticularly education, science and technology, wishing every success to the\nOrganization in implementing its socially-conscious future programmes and\nplans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition,\nthe meeting touched on ISESCO\u2019s new vision and action strategy for the next\nphase. In this regard, Dr. AlMalik reviewed a range of major programmes and\nprojects already initiated by the Organization, most notably the waqf\n(endowment) project whose proceeds will go to financing ISESCO\u2019s programmes and\nactivities in Member States\u2019 neediest areas to support and empower women and\nchildren. Dr. AlMalik also pointed out that, under the Organization\u2019s new\nvision, studies will be carried out in the field of <em>waqf<\/em> in the Islamic\nworld with a view to promoting and developing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.icesco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Isesco_DG_Rached_Ghannouchi_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9991\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the same\nvein, Dr. Ghannouchi commended the idea of waqf and dubbed it as a practical\nsolution to achieve ISESCO\u2019s noble objectives. He underlined that waqf accounts\nfor 30% of the expenditure of universities and civil society activities in\nTunisia and that developed countries largely depend on it to ensure education\nand healthcare services to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key among\nthe issues discussed at the meeting are ISESCO\u2019s efforts in the fight against\nextremist thought and the documents issued by the previous sessions of the\nIslamic Conference of Culture Ministers that constitute a cultural and\nintellectual approach to combat extremism and promote moderation and middle\nstance, as advocated by the noble religion of Islam. These documents call on\nIslamic countries\u2019 legislative institutions to enact more laws to this effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cExtremism\nhas severely harmed Islam and Muslims. Joint efforts have to be made to\neradicate this plague\u201d, Dr. Ghannouchi commented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his\npart, Dr. AlMalik stated that under its new vision, ISESCO endeavors to become\na house of expertise for the Islamic world, hence the creation of the Center of\nStrategic Anticipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.icesco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/12\/Isesco_DG_Rached_Ghannouchi_4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9992\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two\nparties also explored the intellectual role played by ISESCO through \u201cISESCO\nCultural Forum\u201d which hosts renowned intellectuals from Muslim countries to\ndiscuss today\u2019s issues and provide their suggestions and ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting brought\ntogether Mr. Nabil Hajji, Vice-President of the Assembly in charge of External\nRelations; Mr. Habib Khedhr, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the\nAssembly; Dr. Najib Rhiati, Director of Culture at ISESCO; Dr. Mohamed Ghemari,\nDirector of the General Secretariat; Dr. Kais Hammami, Director of the Center\nof Strategic Anticipation at ISESCO; and Dr. Abdelilah Benarafa, Cultural\nAdvisor to ISESCO Director General. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr. Salim M.
